I have never read the books. I am now contemplating pulling them out. I have a question, which I may know the answer to... which did you like better: reading the books or watching the movies?
I LOVED the movies, so do you think I'd love the books even more?

Although I enjoyed the movies, I love the books more. There is so much in the books that can never be shown completely in the movies.
I think JR Rowling is a great writer, and the world of Harry Potter is definitely her masterpiece. I read all the books in the series and I'm still bowled over by her talent.
To those who enjoys the Harry Potter movies, and if you enjoy reading, you should not miss out on the wonderful books. There you will gain more insight that the movies can never give you.

I totally agree! Although the Harry Potter movies are really good, I found the books much more enjoyable. I love reading & can get lost in the stories. If you read the books first then see the movies you can see just what was missing. Like I said I read all the books first then saw the movies & was kind of disappointed in what they left out though I know it would be impossible to put everything from the books into the movies.

I didn't read the books too. But I know friends that have this experience. They told me that the story of the author is better than the books. And in their opinion the Harry Potter movies present the story in better way than the books. But I'm not sure about it - I don't know what is written in the books and in what style.
I heard that it's the same situation with Lord of the Rings.

I love them both (movies and books) but if I really have to chose then I will go for books. The movies is like a compressed versions of the books since it can't play over several hours and so they just have placed into the scenes the important scenarios in the books.

I like watching the movies and reading the books. I just don't always have time to read the books. You can get alot more information on the stories from the books than from the movies. Some parts of the stories are taken out due to timing and such. It's still all good.

I would have to say that I really liked reading the books better with watching the movies as a very close second. The first couple of movie really follow the books really close so I do not think that you really miss out on much but after that the books contained so much more that you really are missing out on the story if you do not read the books.

hello! i havent got hold of the book yet. though i know that there are also audio books, i still didnt have the chance to try. but in all stories i knew, the book is more detailed than the movie, we can more appreciate reading because the details is there and the picture is clear. sometimes the movies were twisted to suit to the taste of the target audience. for me i will suggest you read the book.:) happy mylotting

Personally, I like the books more. I think the movies are good, but the books are better. The movies have to leave out some (I think) very important things due to time constraints. Ultimately, I think you should read the books and decide for yourself.

Movies and Books are 2 different media of entertainment. Both are enjoyable for me but when I saw a movie based on the a novel I found that movie was not that interesting as its book version. In book they furnish so much information that is not possible in movies. So, I would say books are better than movies.

I was also a late comer to the books. I am only just finishing the Order of the Phoenix. So far, there have been aspects about both that I enjoyed. For example, in the movie for Prisoner of Azkaban, Hermione punches Malfoy in the nose. In the book, she slaps him. I thought the punch was far more effective.
But I thought Lockheart was 1000 times more annoying in the Chamber of Secrets book than he was in the movie. In the movie he was just silly. In the book, he made me want to throw my book. But he was supposed to be annoying so the book was more effective to that end.
Enjoy the books! If you have enjoyed the films thus far, you shouldn't have any problem with the books.

i prefer books. i am a bookworm and also loves movies. but when i see a movie, i always feel that there's something lacking and that it was not able to completely satisfy the audience so that when you read the book, that's when you see the whole big picture haha, i want to think that i have a great imagination so i can picture it when reading books.

Personally, I prefer the books because I read the first four before the movies even started to come out, and by comparing them, the books just have so much more detail and a more sensible plot. The first two movies were great and really followed the storyline, but from the third movie to the present one, they are increasingly getting worse. I absolutely hated the fourth and fifth movie because they just didn't cover enough about what was going on. They also stray from the books a lot more than the first two did. So, I will definitely stick with the books as my primary Harry Potter entertainment.
