I just recently read an article that said in the next ten to twenty years they believe that scientists will be able to stop and even reverse the aging process. This really moved me in a way that i cant really put into words. The concept that people would be able to live forever is just mind boggling. What are your thoughts about this development, what would you do with all the time that you would have to live, and if you had a choice to accept a treatment that would extend your life time indefinitely would you take it?

Most people can't seem to be happy with the life they already have--why do we assume that a longer life means a happier life? I truly believe that the real key to real happiness is being content with where we are here and now.
Besides, even if we could reverse or end the aging process, what about illness or injury? Can you imagine what it would be like to get into a horrible accident or have some incredibly painful illness and know that because you had already gotten this "immortality" treatment, you could never die and you'd have to live forever in the same condition? I think we would be better served living our lives to the fullest here and now and maybe try to end the causes of suffering before we try to figure out immortality.

Well said. I hadn't given thought to that myself, but it does make sense. I mean, most of the vampire myths deal with this very thing in their stories. There is always a price to pay for living forever. And it's not always pretty.

Anora-
Precisely my point. Immortality is over-rated if we can't solve the other problems of life first.

Well that sounds interesting but I guess there will come a time in your life that you just need to stop and let others take over you. For me that is the law of nature. We have to continously evolve into something and as part of this evolution we have to shed those that came in first and give way to the next generation. Discovering these reversal of aging process would just go against nature and I really do not know what this would mean. There is consequences of course that we have to pay if we go against the normal way.

i read the book Caves of Steel not too long ago, which touched on this topic, and the author came to the conclusion that humans would eventually live longer, and this would only be possible through continuous colonization of the solar system...i agree, and we should look into how to settle the universe before we plan on living forever.

That is a fresh viewpoint you have there. Well I guess we are going to that point. We have start exploring Mars lately although unmanned that is. But I think it will take sometime before we are able to travel to that planet right now.

I have always been pro-life but in this case I think it is not for the common good. I want to ask first why do we want to live for eternity? Earth is limited in space we can't just live all and more babies will be born to fill the earth. We could move maybe in some planets if we want to have an eternal life. Well for me I don't really believe that one day scientists can discover an antidote to aging. Because they cannot be more powerful than God. I know some may have violent reactions but I still believe that every people should die in order to give room for the next generation. I would rather go for life extensions but not to make us human immortal. I would accept only life extender but not to live forever. All of us will get old. Those who want to get young again, there are a lot of anti-aging products in the market. But we can never stop time to make us old.

Why on earth would anyone want to live forever? There are way too many people on the planet now! You think you get frustrated with younger people or with politicians or gas prices now? Just wait until you've been around a century or two! So many people are obsessed with aging and wrinkles and gray hair. When did getting older turn into a bad thing? Considering how short the lifespan used to be for the average adult not that long ago getting older should be seen as an honor. You should get some kind of merit badge for surviving into your golden years.

I don't it would a good idea. First 100 years maybe fun but after that it would be boring. God has give enough time for us to enjoy our life, just make it worth.

I dont believe that is going to happen .I am no great christian but I believe that only God know the secret to that.I think the devil right from the start has been making those claims and what have we seen people are still dying and they will continue to die in the next ten to twenty years .I dont want to kill anyone's hope but I dont think that there is a medicine that can cure this because I think it is something that is built in the genes

personally i think that would be a bad thing. if they do that then this world would get over populated and we wouldnt be able to feed and house every one. its some thing that would be nice, but until we have another planet to live on its not a good idea. it would be nice to reverse the effects of aging, but i dont think that i would want to live for ever. it would make life see kind of pointless. its one of those things that i would wonder what would i do with my life if i could live that long.

It will really be interesting..Honestly i have tot of things like that and i believe with time it will happen..Altho it might not be a forever thing but atleast to reduce the aging process....Ever human being will want to extend there life if they have the power to...LIFE IS BEAUTIFUL!!! And my time? Atleast i won't rush things as now i'll take my time to do whatever i want with leisure..

I was given a set time to live my life and that's all I ask for. I would rather use the time I have enjoying my life as it comes.
My son has a fatal illness. He will have a shortened life. I've dealt with it but it has taught me to enjoy what I have and not to worry about time as much as the moment I have right now.
