Some really annoying crap. That happened to me this afternoon, in the middle of an appointment!!! When I saw the area code I thought it was our lawyer calling, so I interrupted the appointment to answer it. It was some idiot talking to me about auto insurance. Annoyed me for a few reasons. a) I pay for in-coming calls!!! b) I was in an appointment c) I don't even have a cac d) MY NUMBER IS SUPPOSED TO BE PRIVATE!!!! I don't want every idiot in the world knowing my cellphone number. I didn't even give it to my own mother till I had it for a few months. Is there any way to stop this crap

I am with you. I am getting SMS messages and I have to pay for it. I already called my mobile provider and they stated that there is no way to block the user. My friend has an iPhone and he is able to block any number he wants. As far as phone calls I don't respond to "unknown caller", because it is coming form someone who is blocking his phone number on purpose.

if you have any retailer cell phone service, you CAN block text messaging. if you can get on your browser on your phone, and can get to "message settings" you can block them from there. ^^

Somebody sent me a number to call months before cell phones became fair game to telemarketers and said you can put your cell phone on a do not call list. NUTS! Now I lost the number. I'll see if I can find it and get back to you.

I have my cell phone on the Do Not Call List in the US and they still find a way around it.

Thanks! I'm Canadian, and my husband's American. Unfortunately he was able to varify that the American do-not-call list is a joke, and all it does is give your number to more SPAMMERS to call and text you.

I am sorry that your getting annoying phone calls. One company called me 5 times in one day and wouldn't take for an answer. I just felt so frustrated as we are on the do not call list.

I've had that happen. I finally asked for their supervisor and informed them that if they called me again my lawyer would be calling them. They didn't call back. (I don't even know a lawyer, but the threat worked.)

If you find a way to make it stop, let me know. I had one number that called nine times in a row (back to back calls) before I finally answered. This was the same number that called while I was on an unfamiliar interstate and was soooo lost, and nearly wrecked trying to get to my phone. I told the man to stop calling and that I was not interested. Unbelievably enough, the same number called later that night! I wasn't as polite the last time they called, and thankfully it was the last time they called. I now have a new one calling and I have a few choice words for them as well!!!

A similar thing happened to me, and the guy kept asking for the same person. Finally I pretended to be that person's secretary, and offered to take a message. The guy gave me his phone number, which I promptly gave to the police. I never heard from him again.

OK, found it. This is has a link to the website where you can register Canadian phone numbers. http://toronto.about.com/od/federalgovernment/ht/do_not_call.htm and this one has the link for the US. http://phoenix.about.com/cs/seniors/a/donotcall.htm

Thanks!!! Maybe they have fixed the list so maybe as of tomorrow it'll work. :) LOL If not, I'll have something to tell my buddy Goldhawk on his call in show on AM 740.

The American and Canadian "do not call" lists are worse than a joke, they have become databases available to telephone spammers. Having an unlisted number does nothing. The automated dialers these jerks use just pick number either randomly or sequentially by prefix.

Several months ago I went through a period of time where all that I got on my phone several times a day were telemarketing calls. It would happen two or three times a day several times a week. I ended up putting my cell phone number on the do not call list to get them to stop. Apparently, the number that was sending me all the texts had somehow hijacked a women's home phone number and was hiding behind her number making calls. The poor woman kept getting irritated phone calls from people that she was 'calling' and she couldn't do anything about it. I'm not sure if they've fixed things now or not but I sure hope so! At least the calls stopped coming to me.

Hi danish, I don't answer any unknown calls and I will only wait for a voicemail message if ever the caller know me or it's one of my friends who are not in my phone book. I don't like to talk to any telemarketers, It's hard something to let them stop talking, most are very persistent. I know it's their job but when we are busy, I don't appreciate it!

I suppose the only way to stop is not to put it on forms you fill out online. The sell that information and before you know it many companies have it, just like spam.

Oh yes, all the time and now I just skip any calls with unknown or not familiar number to me! I find them so annoying! I personally don't like the calls, but I don't mind the texts. I found some of the texts useful but I just don't get the patience talking to a saler on the phone for something that I don't need.

Some how my cell phone number got leaked and now i'm receiving at least once a week these Prize Patrols calling me saying I was entered into a contest and won a prize. Most times they are trying to get my credit card number. I always just tell them to leave me alone and then they call back about 3 times before they give up.

Personally I think that this is a little rediculous now that there are so many Telemarketing companies and people who own their own Businesses calling and Texting so many messages to people from time to time. I know that I have had to block a couple of people who have Text me such SPAM and feel that this is going too far, but I have heard via a Yahoo group, etc. this is the new way to go as well. Yes, there should be a way to prevent some of these, but I am not sure how to Stop these as well. I guess we only hope for the time when it is not allowed for sure.

Yes, or at least, there is in England. Call your network provider and get nuisance calls blocked, and they'll give you no more trouble. The problem is these days anybody can check your mobile number for a few bucks. It's happened a few times to me, but I don't answer no number calls, or 0800 calls. Brightest Blessings.

they just go down a certain number range in sequence and hit all of them. all you can really do if report them if you have a "do not call" list there,or block them if your phone can do that. but most of them will just get a new number and do it again. it's damn annoying.especially if you can't see the number before you answer.
