Have you ever been the victim of a crime while travelling?

I have been driving by car to Manitoba, Canada and while paying for gas my car got stolen. Luckily the police found the car within a couple hours and it was not damaged.
Mind you that was about 15 years ago, but I was wondering if anyone else has any stories or experiences of crimes they experienced while travelling?

When I was in the Maldives I got attacked whilst walking along a lonely beach. I luckily got away from my horrid attacker and got back to my accommodation cut and bruised. All I had done was hire a bike and cycle over the bridge up a chain of islands and it happened on my way back.
I haven't had any money stolen because I have been careful with it. When I was in Guatemala I hid my money in five different places. In Nairobi I only carried day to day cash around and made sure it looked like I was only carrying a transparent plastic bag.

Yea, it was scary too. I was fifteen and was groped on a subway in Mexico City for three stops before I could get out of the car. At first I thought the guys were just trying to pick my pockets, but then they got bolder. It freaked me out quite a bit, I still don't like crowded enclosed spaces and have a hard time handling it when people I don't know get in my personal space.

I lived through it and I still LOVE to travel. I know that sometimes bad things just happen. I know very well that I was lucky, it could have been worse.
