Would You Give A Stray Animal A Home?

I have, in my life taken in stray animals to give them a good home. I am not talking about a stray that you go to the animal shelter and adopt, although I think that is great too, I am talking about a stray animal that you see on the side of the road.
Would you take that animal home with you? What, if any steps would you take to find its rightful owner?
The animals that I always took in were kittens that I knew had no owner, but I did find a dog once and helped find its owner. I called the police station and animal shelter, and within just a few hours, the owner came to pick it up. As it turned out, the animal had gotten off of its chain and ran after another animal. The owner had been looking for it all day. I love animals, and when it is possible, I do what I can for a stray, Being able to reunite an animal with its owner is a great feeling too.

I have taken in strays all of my life. All of the ones that I have taken in either had no owner or the owner didn't want them. I think it's terrible the way people will get an animal and then get tired of it and just let it run wild. Since I've moved to Mexico I have taken in 2 street dogs and 2 parrots. I still have the doggies. I gave away the parrots, I really am not a huge bird person, but they were being mistreated and I couldn't stand it. I have had one of my strays for nearly 6 years now and the other one I got right before Christmas this past year. Both of them were in horrible shape when I got them, but now they are shiny, happy and healthy dogs.

yes i would take a stray animal home. I have a love and passion for animals and i hate when people just leave them somewhere. I would always take one in no matter what kind of animal it is. From a raccoon to a shark. I love animals. They are fun and nice. They are the best to play fetch and chase with.

we once took in a ferret that turned up on our doorstep on a stormy night.
he was a wonderful natured thing, and we had him for many years.
when he turned up he was very neglected. even if he'd been loose a while, he had lots of very old tic scars, which led us to believe he'd never really been well looked after

Yes I have. When I was a kid, my mom stopped on the road and picked up a stray turtle. She had it checked at a vet. We named it Jefferson. He was around for a long time. I think I would wait until my kids are a bit older, for safety sake. But I would do it again.

One of my dogs was a stray and almost all of my cats were. With dogs, they usually have chips if they are owned. If the dog doesn't have a chip, they are either to young to get chipped and vaccinated, or it's owners don't care enough to register it and give it it's rabies shot. In my opinion if the owners haven't registered it according to the mandate here, they don't own it. All dogs must be registered and chipped and given a rabies vaccine by 4 or 5 months of age. I forgot which.
I will take strays to have the chip read. I will keep an escaped dog until their owner can come. I had a really cute French Bulldog that bolted from it's home on Independence day. The noise frightened it. It was obvious it was owned and loved.
It's owners and the head of the dog rescue called and left messages around that it was lost and found. The owners found out that he was placed with me for the night. I placed him in my dogs crate next to my bed. He loved it. He was to special to stay in the yard. He was obviously a house dog. The next morning they called me bright and early and came to claim their dog. I was glad that the dog made it's way home. I love Frenchies. They are great dogs. I really want one. This was my 12 of having one.

Yes. I had given home to couples cats before. The cat I'm having now came by itself. I remember there was one day, when I was going to water my plants, I saw a tiny thing on the balcony and it was a kitty, he was a little scared then I caught him and brought him into the house to intropduce to my rest of pets and let him became the part of my family :-)

I can only have two pets in my apartment now, but years and years ago, it wasn't unusual for me to take home a stray kitten from time to time...they are long gone now in Rainbow Bridge, but there was Friskey, Snoopy, Biddy, Willie, Whoopi, Taffy, Bobbie and Buffy

It would be strange here in the Philippines if we all just took in stray animals. For one thing, the standard of living isn't pretty so what we can save for ourselves, we will, and having to really take care of a pet required effort, time, and money (if you don't have spare food) that not many people can afford.
I am happy that you find joy in your pets. Unfortunately, I'm allergic to animals - their fur and the sweat on their nose. I guess I'll find my place on earth in other people's needs instead :)
Thanks for the response on my discussion!

I would absolutely take in a stray. However, I would also make great strides to try and find the animals owner before actually calling it my own. I would hate to imagine a family without its beloved pet as much as I would hate to imagine the animal alone and lost!

We had a stray cat have kittens in our backyard. She did take care of them until they were eating regular food. And she didn't have any problem with me being around her or them. It started to get a little cold and I took them onto our back porch and that was all she wrote. The mama was to old to be domesticated, but the 2 kittens became the world's most indoor cats ever.
I once saw a dog (a cohow to be exact) with her puppy in a KFC parking lot. She looked a bit ragged, like she had been outside for a few days, but she still looked healthy as did the pup. She didn't trust me, so the only thing i could do was call it in to the police so they could contact animal control.

We've taken in many strays over the years. We live in a rural area, so it's not uncommon for people to bring unwanted dogs or cats and dump them out here. Some of the best dogs that we've had were strays that wandered in one day. Every once in a while a dog will show up with a collar that has a name and phone number, and it always feels good to reunite the owner with their pet. I just couldn't imagine loading an animal into my truck, then just dumping them and take off down the road. It takes a very heartless person to do such a thing.

My family has gone to great lengths to find stray animals a loving home. As i have said in other posts my family used to take in strays and rehabilitate them, then, working with multiple local animal shelters and pet shops, we would find the right location for the right animal. We had to stop because of a mystery disease that swept through our cat population, but while we were able to work with so many animals we really enjoyed it.
We have multiple rescue pets, all of them live indoors and have great personalities.

I would definitely give a stray animal a home, in fact most of the cats that we've had have been strays, they always seem to find our house. There's no way that I could turn them down. Our other animals we have always bought or got from friends. Animals deserve a good home & I believe that they know we will give it to them. lol
