Pencils are the first thing I held when I was in Kinder garden. I even remember having those jumbo pencils that I show off my classmates. Haha And got too excited and delighted when I start using a pen when I was in 4th grade or I think was in 3rd grade. I feel like mature writing using a pen. Lol Still, I'd prefer using pen to write down stuff and by keeping planner organized. Though the good thing about pencil is that, it can easily erased what you have written down when you make mistakes. Pencil is good to use too for drawings and sketchings. But no matter how good pencil is, I'd still go for pens. I like those colorful ones. They're good for my planner to keep them attractive to look at. Lol
So what do you prefer?

I most frequently use a mechanical pencil. I like the Pilot engineering pencil, and using HB lead. It is a little expensive and hard to find, but it is the best pencil I have ever came across. I have been using it for over 13 years now. One of my old bosses got me hooked on them.
Though, I have always preferred a pencil. And my brother calls me a pencil pusher because of the different financial positions that I have had in the past. So, I guess it makes sense that when you are dealing with numbers you use a pencil so that you can erase in case you make a mistake.
Interesting discussion you started here. Thanks and have a great day!

I will grab for a pen over a pencil. In my line of work, I have to use black ink. I prefer a gel pen, because it writes the smoothest and when doing a lot of writing, I like it the best. Can use white out with mistakes by pen, if you don't use a pencil with eraser.

I use a black gel pen for everything. Gel pens write so nice, and I always have white out if needed. Black ink is best for copying, faxing or scanning. I also print just about everything, except my signature. It is neater and easier to read.

I love pens, I cannot stand pencils. Pencils are too messy. Pens are great, they don't make that much of a mess.

I have use both and yes I admit that pencil is good for drawings and sketching. I enjoy writing with pen but sometimes I wrote a poem with pencil because I'm not confidence enough to write with pen. So, I think both have their pros and cons. Anyway I found some unique pen where you can learn Mandarin or English with it. Check out this link http://yokotechspace.blogspot.com/2009/02/now-you-can-learn-mandarin-and-english.html What do you think? Unique right?

It really depends on what I am writing. I prefer pencils when I'm just jotting down notes and such because i can erase and fix thigns. But for professional documents I always use black pen.

I prefer to use the pencil only as the handwritting is really nice when you use pencils. But due to the kind of work I have to use the pen onlu. Over the time the things written by pencil faint after some time or the other while the pen remains the same, so I prefer to use pen.

I have always preferred pens. I dont care if i make mistakes. I just scratch over it and go on. Then only time i will use a pencil is if required to. Like when i had to test for that job they required pencil. So i still use pencil but prefer pen.

I heard a myth about a millionaire research of NASA developing a pen that works without gravity, while russians simplified the trouble by using pencils :P I don´t know if that myth is real, but it´s funny to hear... I use pens always, even when i know i´ll make a mistake :S

I like pens better for many reasons, many of them already said, but pens also don't require trees being chopped down to make them.

When I was in grade school the first thing I used is pencil because teachers do not allow us to use a pen. They only want pencil because it is easier to erase what you have written incorrectly. When I entered high school I started using pen because teachers do not allow pencil. When I draw or just write stuffs that I want to erase I use pencil but when I want permanent ink I use pen. When I entered college I never used pencil but in just one subject I liked and that is Sociology. Reason is I want my notebook to be as clean as possible so I used pencil. I just need to erase any mistake and so I had a clean notebook. The rest of my notes were written using pen and I prefer black ink. Pens are more attractive than pencil because they come in different colors. Until now that I am married I still go for pen and I also have sign pens. Those are quite more expensive than pens because of the ink quality and the output.

I prefer pencils -- they have a softer effect on the page, and I like the ability to erase if I need to. It's cleaner than scribbling out! I especially like to do my creative writing/poetry in pencil, rather than in pen or on the computer, there is just something about it that makes me feel more connected to the page.

Hello smooch091784!!!!!!!!!!
I want Pencil because pencil can be erase while ballpen is not, and i usually used pencil for drawing and lettering. Anyway the answer for that question is depend on the person what he/she uses always or which is useful for him/her.... Until now I'm using pencil even on my notebook. except for filling up forms... It depends on the person....

Pen, althought a good mechanical pencil is always great. I love pens when writing papers for school, or writing in my dayplanner. Plus where I work we can only write in black ink. But my favorite is those gel pens that come in all different colors. No matter how old I get I will still love GEL PENS !!!
