Do you feel offended if someone doesn’t reply to your text message?

I use my mobile phone for texting more than actual phone calls. I receive quite a few texts every day and I usually reply to every one even if it’s just with a thank you or see you soon. What about you? Do you always answer all your text messages? Do you feel offended if someone doesn’t reply to yours?

I guess if the original message is not very nice you can't expect an answer! I prefer to receive a reply as soon as possible but I am understanding to the fact that it is not always convenient for the other party to respond immediately. Thanks for you response tonyllenium!

I guess it would depend on the urgency of the mesage and the person I was sedning the message to.I would feel offended if I sent the message and was awaiting and answer urgently and the person deliberately ignored the message after a very long time. The offence would be extremely great if it was to a lover who ignored it because you had a fight

Yes it does depend on who you have sent the message to, that's for sure...I don't generally mind if I don't receive an answer immediately because I know that most of my friends will reply when they can... Thanks for stopping by ronnyb!

hi paula,
I do text few persons but they are very close to me . I dont usually do much texting these days as i feel it is always better to talk than to text so i can get my reply at same time but if i have to joke or something to send then i text. Usually i dont get replies soon so it is ok but if i dont get reply after many texts and over few days then i feel i m being given cold shoulder treatment and i feel offended. I usually try to answer all the text by friends when i get either by texting back or by giving a call. I dont reply to commmercial texts.

Hi agrim, thanks for responding, I feel annoyed when urgent texts are not answered because I always make it a point to answer the ones I get. I guess if a matter is really urgent I can always call the person! Thanks again!

hi. sometimes i dont answer text messages especially if they are forwarded msgs. but if the text is asking for something or need to be answered, i always make it a point to answer them. and yes, i do get offended and sometimes irritated if i text somebody and ask for something and he/she doesnt reply because i dont do that.

I also do the same thing. I often feel offended when I ask something important especially when I texted a person to ask him/her how he/she is. I have this friend and we often text before, but after a few months when he got romantically-involved with someone, he is no longer replying to my messages. I really hate people who are like that. I always keep in touch with my old friends too. If an old friend, would text me, I would certainly reply. I always make it to a point to reply.

That's not cool to stop answering messages because he has a partner now. Not a nice thing for a friend to do. I like to receive replies. Thanks for responding!

Hi Paula,
I wouldnt say that I get offended if someone doesnt reply to my text but I guess it can be considered rude but you ahve to take it from the others persons point of view. maybe they were busy at the time and it slipped their mind or maybe they didnt even recieve the text. That has happened to me before.
I use to have a boyfriend that would littearaly freak if I took longer than like 5 minutes to reply to his text. He would constantly test again and again like where are you or something and it was like Im in school and I cant be texting every second you know. I got so annoyed by it.

That would be annoying! I am guilty of not hearing my phone when it's charging in my bedroom, I've missed important texts that way and I do agree it is a little rude not to reply. It depends whether the person has a habit of doing it all the time I guess. I presume the boyfriend you mentioned is an ex now...Thanks for responding standbymeforever!

Yes, I do feel offended. It doesn't take much effort to reply to a text message, and I'm sick of hearing the "I was too busy" excuse because no one is so busy 24hours / 7 days a week that they can't reply to a simple msg. And even if they are so busy, they could easily reply back at least the next day or few days later, but when that doesn't happen, that's when it becomes annoying.
I have sent text messages just to keep in touch with a former colleague and he just ignored my text many times. Very rarely he would reply. There were also times when I have sent texts notifying him of job vacancies to which he doesn't even have the courtesy to reply back with a simple word of thanks. That really annoys the crap out of me. Not that I'm snding the text to get a thanks, but it is common decency to send a response back to some one who has gone to the effort of sending u a text.

I can see your point because without a reply there is no way of knowing if the other person has even received the message let alone if you're waiting for an answer! Thanks for responding anonymous_angel_ hope you get the messages you are waiting on!

My texts are always related to my business.Either to my partner or to the candidates I am dealing with as I am running a placement agency. So I never worry if i o not get a response for my texts. It clearly shows the lack of interest and the attitude of the candidates and it helps me to eliminate from my list to save future trouble.

Sounds fair enough to me, if they can't be bothered to reply they can't be wanting the job. Thanks balasri!

That's really sweet of you. It indeed feels good. A simple Thank you works amazing and even though I try to do that all the time, I cannot. I must actually make it a point to acknowledge the text message as I do for emails.
Thanks.

That's a shame...Some people are more difficult to figure out than others; she doesn't sound too reliable, you are better off not worrying about her unless she decides to get in touch with you, I guess. Thanks for the response though, I appreciate it.

I normally give me response to the sender by conveying my thanks or else I send him/her a return message to acknowledge to let him/her know that I've appreciated his/her message. I love sending SMSs and as and when I receive some lovely ones, I forward it to my near and dear ones, of course with slight modification. I find it is a great fun to exchange messages.

I also use my mobile more for texting than for phone calls. I always reply to my texts, because I am enjoy texting and it is polite. I hate it when people do not reply, because it does not take much time and it is just plain rude to ignore someone. I tend to ask people why they did not reply and most people just say "I forgot, I read it, went to do something and planned to reply to it in a bit" which I really do not understand as I reply immediately.

It is not really forgetting if you are not aware that you have got a text. If I am in lessons at college, I may not text back for an hour because we are not allowed to text in lessons.

i don't expect someone to reply me for a every message i send, whenever i need a reply i simply make a call to the person and make a conversation for less than one minute. I also don't take the pain to reply to every message i get.

It can be annoying when you're busy and you are right a phone call should only take a minute; if only I could make my friends understand that I want to keep it brief sometimes! Thanks for the response!

I hear ya on that note. It is so annoying sometimes when you are in a store and someone has stopped right in front of you while you are walking because the are chatting on the phone. I go shopping to get away from the phone, lol.
I agree they can be nice, and great for emergency's, but they get too convenient for some people, and I think when you are spending time with someone that it is very rude to carry a conversation on with someone, unless it is an emergency.

When ever i text something and other end friends give some text messages so that should be responsible to each and everyone.
i have done in the same way if the people don't give messages.

I use my mobile phone for texting quite alot of the time when i have credit, i send and receive quite alot of texts every day, and if someone sends me a text i will try my very best to get back to them, either by a phone call or text if i have credit. When i send text messages and people don't reply, i know thats its normally because they are busy, have no credit to reply, signal in the area they are in may not be too good, so the text may not send till later, but im not too bothered if they don't reply because i can get intouch with them some other way, like on messenger or by phoning them. I know that they will have seen the text message i sent, so no i don't feel offended.
