I am wondering if I add another 1GB RAM to my computer, would it make my computer faster?
In my opinion, RAM doesn't seems to be very important. I hear my friend said adding more RAM can speed up computer but how true is that?
Anyone can help me with this?

RAM is the primary memory of the computer....
no computer if there is no RAM
it holds the data temporarily....
ur system performance will be increased if u increase ur RAM
Random Access Memory will help in faster start up...
happy mylotting....

It's true. Regardless how huge your storage capacity or hard disk is, if your RAM is too small, it will cause your system to process things too slow as well. Better get an equally big RAM in order that your pc use would be faster, smoother and more efficient.
Good luck!

well buddy,,,
RAM is equally important like processor,,,you cant run your pc without RAM it speedens up the processing speed

You are right. RAM is important. My computer is now having 512 MB RAM which I am not sure whether it is sufficient or not. My computer is running on Intel Dual Core. Sometimes, it takes a lot of time for my computer to stable down.
Is it due to low RAM?

it depends, if you run more programs, it can improve your computer's performance, and will make you computer faster. if you run only little programs, you wont notice it.
imagine this.
if you have 1 cup, and you need to drink water but there is soda in you cup
you pour soda away from your cup and pour water to drink it
but if you have two cups, you pour soda to 1 cup and water to the other.
it will make it faster.
1 cup steps
1. pour soda away from cup A (erase)
2. pour water to cup A (write)
3. drink water (use)
2 cups
1. pour water to cup B because cup A has soda (write)
2. drink water (use)
in my example, there is only 1 step difference but i hope u got the point

of course! it can affect your computer's speed performance.
but be sure to buy the right one.
for example, 1gb DDR1 ram 667Mhz cant be used on a 233mhz motherboard.
well, technically, it still can be used, but the speed would be downgraded from 667 mhz to 233 Mhz.
you could know your motherboard characteristic by reading its manual [i hope you don't lost it. LOL]
so, choose your RAM wisely.
happy choosing ;)

If we say in non technical terms, RAM is the place where our commands are executed. If we have less RAM, only few commands will be executed at time others will be in Que to get executed after the previous commands are executed. If we have more RAM space more command will be executed simultaneously and hence we get our work finished very fast. The RAM are memory that can be accessed randomly, and more RAM faster processing speed of computer and if we have less RAM and the processing will be slow. In that there are two types, one is DRAM(Dynamic Random Access Memory) and another being SRAM(Static Random Access Memory). In the above two SRAM will be too fast than DRAM.

Of course, baby.RAM is the heart of the computer,it achieve many functions such as reading data, calculating data and so on.If you have a bigger RAM,I'm sure you will feel better when you play with your computer.

That maybe true but there are things you should consider looking into. Try looking into you Hard Drive capacity. It might be that your computer is slowing down because your hard drive is already getting full already and you just need to delete those that needs to be deleted. It could be your CPU processor that may cause the slow down. In time as you constantly use your PC the processors do come to a point that they just simply slow down. So I guess the best next thing that you should do is ask a technician what they would recommend to your PC. If they say that RaM upgrade is possible then go.

Ram is your "working" memory. Whatever programs you run they access ram. If you run a lot of software at once say a bunch of internet explorers, a game, a word processor, calculator...they each take a chunk of memory If you run alot the memory available is less and the system slows down.
Windows uses that memory as well so adding more memory does tend to speed a system up.

Hi sdas86, RAM is important if you don't have RAM your computer will blank because your computer will not process anything. RAM need to read and write data from any component in your hardware. It can speed up your computer if you have a lot of unused page in your RAM. RAM works to process all data, it cannot see with your eye because that process is so fast and doesn't show in your screen. If your program use in same address of memory, so it cause crash. Virtual Memory in Hard Disk much slower than Real memory in RAM.

Hey there,
RAM is very important to a computer!Yes, it does speed up the computer, but not that much. I have an Apple Mac laptop that is 9 years old. It came with only 256MB of memory.
I added a 1 Gig Ram chip, and it was one of the best investments I ever made. The $40 I paid for the just the RAM chip, (I installed it myself), was definitely cheaper than buying a new computer.
I'm being honest here. My computer, even with the 1 Gig RAM upgrade, while a bit faster now than when it was only 256MB of RAM, is NOT like a new computer.
Basically, you're just extending the shelf life of the machine you already have, and making it run a little faster. Not blazingly faster.
You'll notice the difference when you run programs that were slow, and somewhat choppy, will run much more smoothly.
If you just use your machine for typing reports, email, internet, then, you may not even really need a ram upgrade.
If you work with graphics, games, animation, music editing, video etc. then OH YEAH, really, really upgrade.
Don't forget to check what types of RAM chips are compatible with your computer. Should give you this information in the computer's manual that came with it when you got it, or go the computer maker's website to find out.
Good luck!

In Computer Architecture
Ram is the 3nd most important part to make ur system run
RAM provides space for your computer to read and write data to be accessed
by the CPU.
When you add more RAM to your Computer, you reduce the number of times your CPU
must read data from your Hard disk.
This usually allows your Computer to work considerably FASTER..

RAM is very important to a computer and if you feel that your computer needs more RAM, then add it on.

I bought additional RAM (1GB) for my comp a few months ago and it actually helped my computer tremendously. I have a lot of large programs on my comp and it had slowed down a lot, especially when virus scans weere running. The additioal RAM helps more than I expected and the difference was noticable as soon as I had it loaded and ready.

RAM is the memory of the computer, so it's important to have a good RAM..it's the primary memory workspace used by the processor to run programs, big memory means better and fasters programs.
