NOT.
How many of you saw that and wanted to jump all over it and report it? And how many of you would normally avoid something like that if you saw it? And is there anybody who would have really visited this discussion thinking to find an actual referral link? Just wondering...

Right, coming from you it had to be a fluke - you don't do that
When I see a title like that, which is not very often these days as I am in the money interests very often now, I investigate and for several reasons.
If it is a new user posting a link for the first time I warn and advise not to do it again. If it is an older user I report. If it is a link to a known scam site I point out the fact that it is not fair on themselves or others to promote scam. If it is a site I have not heard of I first investigate, then point out anything I find worth warning about. This happened recently with a site offering a payout for answering questions. There were not enough questions available on the site for anyone to reach it. The site has since turned out to be a scam (and no-one offers their link for it any more )
Many new users come here to find ways for earning online and quite rightly so. However there are rules to be followed here. I also do not tolerate spammers trying to scam those who are new and just searching for their first online earning ventures.
Nope Dawn a ref link from you, never

If it's up near my sister I might consider it.....
I could try selling it on EBay
after I'd built a real Italian pizzeria on it maybe.
Seems more sense in buying swampland as opposed to silicone valley
I assume it's yours?
If you've got a link (not a ref link ) PM it

I feel that it is stated in the guidelines and that's enough. There is no need for a discussion about it. Posts containing referral links are removed automatically it seems to me and I find anything said on the board about referral links quite annoying. Most annoying is when someone adds a link to their source or some extra reading pertaining to their discussion and they type...."not a referral link" well der! it's quite obvious thank you and this really puts me off so please don't do it.

MsTickle...hmmm..guilty here...I'm one of those that started the {Warning: This is NOT a referral link...} for a very good reason and I had started a discussion about it long time ago.
Some people here whenever they see ANY kind of link automatically for some reason think it's a referral link... It's like when a person reads just the title of a discussion (heehee) but never read beyond that and make a dumb response....I actually did a tongue in cheek discussion that I was pregnant with an alien baby, and actually got one person respond to that as if it were true. Anyway, some time ago, one of my friend's discussions got deleted...she was asking for help about adopting out a cat...a few of us who have pet rescuer experience chimed in and gave links to shelters and other places in her area....the discussion was deleted since it was thought we were leaving referral links...so that's why whenever I do a discussion and I give a link to elaborate on a discussion I'm talking about and want to place a link to an article I give that warning that it's NOT a referral link

Well unfortunately discussions are often deleted without the admin really looking at them...if someone reports the discussion for some reason or another, it's kind of like they take the word of the person reporting it and don't look at the discussion itself to see the validity of why it's being reported....go figure

I doubt that they are removed automatically. Most likely somebody has to report them. But I have been putting "not a referral" out of paranoia. I don't want to get my discussion deleted for putting a link in it. Maybe that's unnecessary though, I just don't want to cheat anybody by getting a discussion they've responded to deleted.

Bad girl! heehee. Actually your title for the discussion did peak my interest and was wondering if you really were going to leave a referral link. I did a discussion once to prove the idea that many people don't read beyond the title or at least first sentence since I posted a discussion that I was pregnant with an alien baby...and sure enough, one person took me seriously!
I usually ignore people who do discussions and leave referral links since I'm thinking to myself..that discussion is going to be zapped. But I WILL report someone who replies in my discussions with nothing more than a referral link as a reply....then I start snooping and look at their profile and will find every single discussion they reply to is nothing more than there referral links.

I only looked because of the title of the discussion, especially knowing you know not to post referral links here. So very clever discussion starter. I genrerally avoid these type of discussions because they usually are deleted and a waste of time to respond to the discussion.

And I'm at least halfway surprised that it didn't get deleted just because of the title!

I've heard reports of people being vindictive and getting you kicked off mylot if you report this sort of thing. I generally just ignore it. Usually this kind of comment is found in the make extra money category, and honestly it belongs there. anyone who is trying to make ends meet by making money online gets used to this sort of thing. People who send out a line like that are just wasting time. They would be better off waiting for someone to ask (they do it all the time) and then pointing to their referral link. then they would actually be helping someone and might get the referrals they are looking for!

I usually ignore it too. Some people just genuinely want to keep the site clean though and would report a discussion with a referral link because it's against TOS, no vindictiveness intended (far as I know)...

Since I know you fairly well, I didn't think you would have any link posted here. I figured it was some kind of rant regarding people who spam or post links, thus violating the terms here and will probably get their posts deleted soon anyway. I WAS RIGHT!! Haha
Sometimes I open those discussions and report them if I have extra time, but most times I just avoid them.

Yeah, one I'm not that foolish and two I just don't spam people. If I get to know somebody I will ask them if it's OK to tell them about something, but that's as far as I go. I actually lost out on at least one good referral here because I just can't be pushy about things.

It irritates me to see those discussions, and normally I'll just roll my eyes at the person, but skip right past the discussion. If it's someone on my friends list, I may go in and delete them from my friends, depending on how often I see their name around Mylot. Like if I don't see them responding to my discussions much, and I don't respond to theirs much, I'll probably go ahead and delete them for a conversation like that. But other than that I just ignore it.

I mostly ignore it too, but if I see somebody doing it over and over again, I might just report it. Depends on my level of annoyance!

When I saw this - I was thinking that you gone all crazy! I don't check those discussions out - but since it was you - I had to check it!
Hopefully discussions like this will open the eyes on some of those that posts referral links here *lol*

Why yes, I am crazy, thanks for asking. lol
Maybe it will. One guy did ask whether it was OK or not and I told him no, so maybe it did educate somebody. And make a few other people laugh!

Hi ya dawny
Phew that was close! You don't know how close you came to me ignoring your discussion completely! LOL I do make a point of reading people's discussion before jumping to conclusions but sometimes some of my friends on my friends list are prone to starting such like discussions and those I do ignore!

It is against the rules and MyLot has asked it be reported. There is the "!" box to do this. Yes, I report referral links, one because it against the rules, and two because if I cannot do it nobody else should. Encouraging referral links in the bodies of posts encourages spamming of the same.

Plus if you don't report it, because you assume somebody else will, it may never get reported and the person may continue doing it.

Yes it is. What you can do is post a banner or link on your profile or you can post a discussion talking about a site. And if somebody asks you, then you can PM the link to them. Thanks for asking!
