While it is often said we should look forward to keep positive and focus on endeavors towards the goal, it is actually hard to forget the past, either happy or sad past.
Recently I learned from a elderly lady, who has overcome really tough challenges that, the memory of the past, if cannot shaked off, should serve as our precious experience. The accomplishment can encourage us to move on, and the setbacks can also do us good, if we find out what caused the results, where we can improve, what resources we can leverage.
Your opinions will be appreciated.

It is the rare individual who can easily forget the past as if certain things never happened at all. Most of us have to live with the memories, while a few are haunted by them.
I always tell my kids and students not to attempt to forget the past. The more we try to, the more stubborn in its refusal to go away. Instead to take whatever is good as a n example or guide for current or future endevours. Whatever is bad is to be taken as a guideline of what not to do.
The past can bw forgotten if we keep ourselves busy with day to day tasks. A preoccupied mind has no room to entertain other thoughts or memories.
all the best,

It's true. It's hard to forget the past, but you should move on with your life and start anew.

Hi zhuhuifen, I agree that it isn't easy to forget the past but we must learn from it and move on with our lives. The good memories we may not want to forget but the bad times come for a purpose as well and we must look for the lesson to be learned from it. Blessings.

I've once heard that if you cannot forget something, just keep bury it at the most hidden part of your heart. You might not be able to forget it entirely, but at least you can have enough courage to go on. Such experience is said to be the precious element of your being. Because unforgotten memories are not meant to be forgotten entirely.

There are some people I know who seem like they do not really find it difficult to forget the past. I observed that these people look so "cool" about it on the surface. I wonder if it's just for face or they really easily forget?
Anyway, I am the type of person who finds it difficult to forget the past. I agree with you that we learn from these experiences. These make us, at least, better people because then we know better. We gain knowledge from these events.

I don't believe we should even try to forget the past.
Rather learn from it ... by rembering past eperinces we
know what decisions/events made us happy and which did not...
So hopefully we learn if nothing else to make better
decissions in our daily lifes.
