Why do we yawn?

I was under the impression that when we yawn its for two reasons=
1. Our body is telling us we are cold and the yawning action makes our body shake trying to warm it up.
2. We are tired and the body draws more oxygen in to keep the mind active.
Also yawning is very contageous, try yawning in a room of people, covering your mouth and watch how many people also yawn.
Does anyone know?

Also the brain is like a computer and we yawn to cool it off because you don't have a fan in your head to keep it cool. Yawning represents a mechanism that maintains attention, so it should be looked at as a compliment when people you are speaking to yawn.

I always thought a yawn was the body telling you that you needed more oxygen. lol But who knows.

I always thought the same thing or at least that is what I learned in school. But it still doesn't explain why we yawn when we see someone else yawn, and just the mentioning of yawning makes me want to yawn.
