Oh man..... These banners with sound effects are driving me absolutely crazy! Yeah sure, I could mute my PC, but I need sound on for other things I'm doing. So here I am, sitting in an office across town and in between meetings..... Hmmmmm I say to myself, maybe I'll sneak in a quick visit to mylot! So off I go and the all of a sudden.....
Mwahahahaha...... Hello! BOING! Beep, beep, beep and so forth. I rush like a maniac to quickly mute my computer before someone in the room hears it and wonders what the hell is going on! And then there's my quiet times at home. Casually browsing through mylot and playing around with other sites and whatever. Oh and sometimes I'm talking to someone on Skype too..... And then off they go again!
Yes, I say to the person on the other line, I HEAR the voices and beeps, sure! It's these damn banners on a site I'm a member of! And I can't mute them this time around 'cos I'm using the PC to have a spoken conversation with someone! So, on we go with all these friggin' sound effects in the background until all I can do is shut down mylot and log back in again later.
So, do these noisy banners annoy the crap out of you as much as they do me?

I think, Dr Mani Bhowmick didn't suit you that well. The LASIX has had an aftereffect on your ears, so to speak! But I am sorry they do not do LASIX on ears!
I am really anxious.....you take care dude!

Oh so I'm hearing things now? lol. Maybe the laser glanced off my lens and burned something into my ear canal by mistake? My eyes are almost healed now by the way! Vision is still constantly improving and I can definitely see the PC screen much better now too! Thanks for the response mimpi and you take care always as well.

Seriously, I am so glad that your eyes are doing great! In fact keep endorsing the LASIK thing, I might end up doing it as well!

I am still using the older of two computers that I have at home and on this one I have no speakers so I am saved from these abusive invasions.
That's not the case when I'm at work though. I have instructions from my boss that during slack times I can do anything like reading a book or knitting or whatever so I get on the Lot. Of course he phones up every now and then to see there are no problems and it is always that right then the darn advert has to speak! He must think I'm going bonkers if I have those voicec talking to me there. I've tried explaining but it's not easy when you're talking with someone not very computer minded

I have a similar situation with my desktop at work versus my laptop. The work PC has no speakers either, so from a noisy banner perspective, it's a Godsend! lol. Your Boss sounds pretty flexible, which is great! I tend to have a similar attitude with my own staff actually and as long as their work is up to date, then I have no issues with the occasional flutter on other sites. This isn't company policy, but you can keep a secret, right? I can relate to having to try and explain the voices too as they always seem to pop up when I'm talking to someone on Skype! lol. Thanks for the response mysdiana.

I couldn't agree more about flexibility in the workplace. Happy employees are ultimately harder working ones! As long as the lines of respect are never crossed, I have no issues at all with being a fun guy! The people I work with all know that I'm pretty laid back and like to have a joke, but in parallel they know that I take my work extremely seriously as well.

Those bossy bosses get nothing back compared to those like you who give and take and are fully aware of where to draw the line! They are fun to work both with and for and make work less of a chore.

The first time i heard the sound i was extremely confused and could not for a good few moments figure out where it came from. I was trying to concentrate on a serious response and applying myself to it. Quite a disturbance it was it tell you. The only way i figured to stop it without having to adjust any settings on laptop was to shift to a different tab.

It sounds like you ended up just like I did the first time I heard one! lol. I was in a boardroom and sneaking in a quick mylot visit when all of sudden these voices started laughing and saying hello! It took me a second or two to work out what the heckit was and then I don't think I've ever moved faster in my life when I shut down the speakers! Tab shifting does help and page refreshing can sometimes cause the banner to be replaced as well, but it's annoying nonetheless! Thanks for the response Alok.

Uggghh! I know what you mean. Personally, I don't do enough stuff that requires audio so I just keep my PC muted. I don't Skype, but I imagine it would be quite annoying having to deal with the distractions. My control panel allows me to turn down the speaker for each tab I have open... does yours not do that? Listen to me offering what might sound like advice.... what do I know?

You're lucky then, because I have no choice but to keep my speakers and sound on most of the time due to other work things I'm doing at the time. I like to keep mylot always open in the background so I can escape every now and then, but these noisy banners are making it hard! lol. I was not aware of having the ability to adjust sound levels for individual tabs! I'll check this out right away..... Thanks for the response and the tip oh wise one!

I am so in agreement. I keep my headphone plugged in, but not worn so that I don't have to hear them. But they have flashing ones instead. For the past 6 months or so I have been the 999,999th visitor to some site and I MAY have won an Audi!! Grrrrrrrrr. Now if they want to deliver it; we'll talk! LOL.

I am most enamored to be hearing that you concur Mr Pike! And how are things in old Blighty this evening may I ask? And surely Sir, you cannot be the 999,9999th visitor, for it is I that holds this position and I have done so some thousands of times to date! Are we to assume that there's foul play afoot? And you were offered the chance of an ALMOST Audi? Don't tell me Reader's Digest are masquerading as portents of good fortune on mylot whilst veiling themselves in bannerly cloaks??? I thank you for your comments dear fellow and pray your Audi does indeed materialise, so that you may attend your Cathedral in style!

OK. If the banner people deliver your Audi, I'll trade you for some horses! Yes, Nova is indeed sweeter than honey! It was great to be able to chat with her and I hope to do so again soon! She had many wonderful things to say about you too. (Apart from that comment about the dwarf tossing, but we'll leave that for another time)

Blighty is cold and dry. The stars are twinkling here for a change. I would rather six white winged horses to pull me to my little church by the river than an Audi (vorchsprung durch the bottom of the sofa). If that can be arranged I would be mightily grateful. I hear that you have been conversing with the lovely Nova. Is she not the sweetest soul?

Obviously they don't bother me as much as they bother you, seeing how I have never been annoyed enough to start a discussion about them.

Actually, I haven't have any noisy banners yet..I have seen flashing ones but no noisy ones so far. Maybe it is because of your interests that you and others get different banners that are alloted to whats in your interests.

I have had a few on other sites scare me because I wouldn't be expecting anything and then hear talking or noise..Maybe they did take the hint..Well, I am off to bed..it is now 6:15 A.M. and I have got to get to bed for a few hours atleast.. So nighty-nighty or should that be morning So what time is it where you are now?

Lucky you, as these banners drive me absolutely crazy! I do have to admit though, that I haven't heard any of them making noises for the last week or so. Maybe they finally got rid of the damn things? I hope so! I do think they'd be dynamic too. They'd be placed according to our specific interests and activity to some degree for sure. Thanks for the response, mtdewgurl.

I know exactly the one you're referring to here as it catches me out so many times it's not funny! lol. And it always seems to be at the most inopportune moments too, like when I'm in a metting room with other people in it! I then have to rush to mute my laptop and then try to explain what it may have been that said it! Thanks for the response cher.

Yeah they do so I turn the sound down. They don't get me right away. It's like some annoying person coming up and talking to me while I'm reading and then all of a sudden I realize they've been there yapping for a while and I just missed the entire thing before I even knew that they were there. And then I"m annoyed

So these banners are female then?

I hear ya Dawn! They always seem to scream out at the most inappropriate moments and they scare the heck out of us on many occasions too. I really do wish they didn't run sound banners here. Thanks for the response.

Hello there Rose! If we were to win a WEE, then I'm making out like a bandit because I win those many times a day! Sure, I'm the self-appointed prizegiver in those instances, but still! lol. Thanks for the response and good luck with friend deny's 11 through 100. They certainly sound persistent!

i honestly didn't know that these banners have sounds. i actually had to open my speakers to see if this is true, and sure enough..anyway, now that i know (thanks to you), i won't turn my speakers on again when i am doing myLot.

lol. I'd definitely leave the speakers OFF if I were you! It can create quite a scare at times if you don't. It can be embarrassing if they start beeping and whatnot while you're at work too! Strangely enough, I haven't heard a noisy banner for a while, but you've said that you heard them just now, so I'll be leaving my sound on low I think. Thanks for the response kayedanda.

i work at home, so i have no worries of office mates hearing hideous sounds coming from my computer. who i'm worried of is my daughter, who wakes up with the slightest sound she hears when she's sleeping (or pretending to. hee hee)

Yes they do annoy me. Mostly they annoy me because they usually startle the heck out of me. It'll be quite as I'm getting ready to or already typing a response and wham, "CONGRATULATIONS YOU HAVE JUST WON...." It's then that I realize that I have forgotten to mute my computer, but, it's too late because my hearts going pitter patter.

I really dislike those things!! The one with the smiley faces that say "No way!!" and all that stuff, I can't stand them!! Sometimes I'm not expecting them and they blast really loudly on my computer and it scares me! I agree that they are very annoying, but I guess that's the point because it catches people's attention and they remember it.

Welcome to mylot BShip! Many of us are not expecting them at all and it can cause a bit of a fright at times too. Especially when the sound is truned up and we're somewhere that we're supposed to be quiet in! lol. They certainly catch attention though, no question. Thanks for the response.

oh yes... i am also terribly annoyed with those sounds... lots of time i am startled by those sounds and i jump from my seat... also, when i am using the computer in my office, i am embarrassed with my other co-worker who happened to be close to me and hear the sound as well... but nowadays it is not as bad as in the past... i hardly heard those sounds anymore... take care and have a nice day...

lol. The very first time we hear them can definitely cause a bit of a fright! Especially if we've got the sound turned up. I've had co-workers hear them too, but only from my laptop. My desktop has no speakers so I'm safe on that front at least! Thanks for the response lingli and I wish for you a great day also.

I would turn off the speaker's all the time too, but I need them on for other things I'm doing on a day to day basis. I've been trying an approach like the one mentioned by the first responder lately and plugging in headphones to muffle the sounds! lol. It's definitely an irritating scenario though and I wish the banners didn't have sound at all. Thanks for the response Nhey.
