Impossible Coworker

There are only three people in my office. 2 of us work really hard while the other does the bare minimum. So while my other coworker and I will work hard to get as much done in a day as we can, she will take hours doing as little as possible. This is really irritating. When our boss asks us how she is doing we'll just tell him she's doing good. A lie but it keeps the peace in the office and we just go on with our work. Now on Friday, I was sent home because I was sick, and the other coworker had the day off leaving the nonworking worker here by herself with our boss. I don't know what she told him while we were gone but now he's treating us like we don't work at all. Irritating! What should I do. Im obviously am not going to stop working as hard as I always do. I kind of feel like punching her face in but I know I can't do that either.

I can understand ur irritation,u and ur another co-worker stick up for her,but she stab u two in the back, and make ur boss think that u two do little things. I think u two should explain to ur boss in proper way and change his attitude on u, if not, u cann't work as before, and the boss still misunderstand u.

ah, so she beat you to the punch.
When he asked you, you should have talked to him privately and told him the truth.
Now it will be tough for you to get him to believe that she is lazy.

You have to start being honest with him or you may lose your job. I have seen a few employees of mine fired because they weren't keeping up with our word loads. I have fired a few people because of this but noticing that the productivity was not any better. I have since started a filing system for all my employees so i can see who finihes what and when. This has inspired productivity out of fear and also prevented me from firing the wrong person again.

Wow that's a tough one. You need to wait for a vhance to show your boss first hand what is really going on. Can you approach the lazy coworker? At least let her know you are on to her and won't let this keep up if you can help it. You really have to tell your bodd even if it causes some ruckus. Especially with the current economic situation; those who don't deserve any bad marks on their records definitely need to keep their slates pure as gold if lay offs were to happen
