If you were passing a public pay phone and it started ringing...

would you pick the phone up? 'Phone Booth' was shown on TV tonight and I re-watched it, it is basically a film about a PR agent who picks up a public phone that was ringing and is told by the caller (who has apparently been surveilling him for sometime..) that he will be shot dead if he hangs up...!
Don't know how many here watched this movie?; although it had never occurred to me, I'd never pick up a public phone if it rang and I was standing right next to it..
Would you answer a public phone if it started ringing? Have you ever answered a public pay phone when you did not know who was on the other end or not expecting someone to ring you back on it?

I have answered public phones. Actually, where I used to work, the employees would have their family and friends call them on the pay phone at a certain time. If I was passing by and the phone rang, I would answer it, and if I knew who the person the call was for, I would go into their workplace and let them know they had a call. I even had people call me on the pay phone.

Funnily enough, my daughter was visiting the other day and told me she'd been watching a reality game where phones rang on different sides of a city and the people who answered became 'contestants' in some sort of race for a prize. She said it was excellent - and it sounds like a great idea! Yes, I'd answer the phone - you never know what might happen!

Nah, I would just walk on by. Let it be because it probably isn't for you, and if it is, that is just creepy.

I have not seen this movie yet, but have heard about it. I have actually picked up ringing pay phones when no one else was around. Mostly they were wrong numbers. It never intimidated me. I always think if no one picks it up the caller won't know they dialed wrong, etc.

Yes, I think that I took a risk to answer the public phone once. But, I may never do this again. I am unsure if I have seen this movie before. It sounds like something that I would want to see. So, I will not pick up the phone so suddenly. I am a little too uneasy to answer it. I would rather be safe than sorry. There is no telling, who is on the other end of that call.

No, I would not. It is most likely a wrong number or prank.

You bet I would. I am too curious not to. I recall this movie but I never saw it. It sounds quite entriguing. I have answered a pay phone and it was a wrong number. I really don't have a problem with it but, again, I haven't seen that movie. I don't understand why someone wouldn't answer a phone. I guess it is just the difference between people. I am just too curious.

Yes, I have answered a ringing public telephone. I have not done it recently because there jus aren't any public telelphoens anymore where I live. The times that I did answer the phone it would be someone asking to speak to someone nearby and there wouldn't be anyone. Or they would hang up.

That's a good movie. I have it but it's been awhile since I watched it, maybe I will this weekend. I've answered pay phones lots of times. Nothing bad ever happens.

Yeah, i know about the movie but i did not watch it as pritics for it are quite bad, and it's a old movie too.. lol =D
I dun think i will pick it up because it's kinda weird for a public phone to start ringing on its own.. Furthermore, it's open to everybody and even if it's not meant for us, we wont know who's the person meant for the call too.. lol =D
BUt in singapore, we used to have those coin phones in our coffee shops, and one will actually be expected to be called back or anybody is welcomed to answer the phone.. hehe ^_^ As there are the usage of 'pagers' in the past, and handphone was not yet created at that time, and thus it's quite a norm to see and hear public phone ringing.. lol =D

I've answered it before when I was in the waiting room at the hospital, usually someone calls looking for family members. There aren't very many public phones anymore, I don't think I've seen a payphone anywhere, everybody has cell phones now.

Yes i have watched the movie. No, i would never answer a public pay fone, it kind of gives me a eerie feeling to answer a public pay phone which is only used for calling and not receiving calls.

Hi, I don't see many pay phones around in public nowadays as almost everyone owns a hand phone. However, I don't think I would answer a call at a pay phone. I am just wondering how to call a public pay phone and what is the number?
