i heard on the news this morning that a teachers aid tryed to drown her small child in the toilet.they did further research and found an infant child in her apt that must have been dead up to a year. this scares me to death. who are we leaving our children with during the day? our poor kids.does any one know if teachers aids are screened before they are allowed to work at the school with children?

This is very scary isn't it? It does make you wonder what kind of people the schools are hiring and what kind of screenings they do. Of course, this person must have passed all the screenings because they didn't know this about her until they found the infant in her apartment. You never know what makes someone snap.

I don't think that anyone would be dumb enough to harm a child while in their care at a school. You can't live your life in fear for your children. You have them in a good school and have to be comfortable leaving them or they will start to sense your hesitation.

that was just sick... who would've suspected? i guess you can never judge a person's character just by their job position and some background information. this is awful. i hope there could be some way to stop these kind of scary things ... all we can do is pray for the world and its people. tsk tsk.

Every state has it's own rules about how teachers & others working in schools are screened. But how can any screening predict that someone is going to commit an awful crime in the future?
I think parents have a responsibility to ask how their school system screens employees & to know the people who are responsible for their children. But again that wouldn't prevent bad people from occasionally working in our schools.

It is a worry but these people are far and few between it is awful to think someone left their child with someone capable of doing something like this, those poor little children how awful for them.In England we screen everybody as much as possible but unfortunately there will always be a very small number that get through.Iam just glad those days are over for me now.It is just so much of a worry ,my daughter and son have children and we worry for them. All I can say to stop you worrying like that is there have always been people like that aid around infact it is probably safer today then it has ever been as we check people out know in the old days if you looked and sounded alright you were employed, having small children has always been a worry my mother in law who is eighty six said she never let her kids out of her sight, kids have always been attacked and worse it is part of life that is brought to the fore by newspapers and tv more than before so it seems worse, just take normal precautions and you cannot do anymore as the kids have to manage to have confidence in the world.I had a thing if I felt uncomfortable or worried or got a gut feeling I would not let mine go or do something,it all depends on their age as well.If you get a feeling about something or someone get them checked out, that has what has kept mine safe that is all you can do.A lot of it is hoping for the best and guarding against any trouble you can see, coming, you won't get it right all the time as no one ever does.xxx

hi again you ask if i would like to take this persons head off at times and yes it's very hard to keep my cool every time i see her .i used to work in a store as a clerk and each time she would cime into my line i would have to step aside and let someone else check her out because i just wanted to reach across that counter and rip her hair out.

It is a dangerous world that we live in. Honestly, do a background check on the person before agreeing to let that person babysit or take care of your child. I would.

They should. I guess the news was talking about an inexpensive facility which doesn't really screen out their employees. It's sad though, here in my place though, you are not allowed to leave your child without someone like a nanny with him/her in the playschool.
Anyhow, good help is difficult to find.

That's just so terrible! Who else can we entrust our kids to in our absence?! I think proper screening must have been done to teachers but I'm not sure if this procedure covers up to the psychological/emotional stability of these individuals. I hope they should make some revisions on the procedure if they haven't yet covered this part.

That is so sick and sad at the same time. How could she do that to an innocent child? I don't know but I feel so sorry for her of what she had done even though I know I shouldn't.

hi i beleive that most of these people are not screened that they are there simply because they have friends that work their .heres my story my 3month old grandson was in a daycare recomened by the state well he was beaten by this woman his face was so black and blue with cuts all over it i cried for days thinking what he went thro at the hands of this monster.charges were filled but never went to court because the state said they did'nt have enough evidence and unfortunately the baby could'nt talk to defend his self so they had no wittness my advice do not put your child in the hands of these monsters no matter how well u think you might know them

Here's the link to the story.
She was at a party when she tried to kill the baby. The other was found in her home.
This linked story also talks of several other scary sad cases. It's worth the read if you can handle it. But in my case, the more I read the more I wanted to strangle a few moms.
Parents should look out for their kids. This shouldn't happen.

i can not believe they turned around and gave that baby right back to her.i just cant bare the thought of what may have happened if the police did not do thier research.

Wow. I'd not heard this one. I'm a teacher who uses aides from time to time. The problem with the background check and fingerprint check is it only flags those who have been convicted. So, if this woman had never been convicted of anything, no one would have been the wiser. It's very scary!
I have to agree with the others that you just need to do your best as a parent to screen the school your children are going to, ask questions, and tell your children to tell you everything.

i know i should try to relax more.i always keep in mind it could happen to any one.i do teach my children to talk to me about things.i use to think a in house care provider would be better but really its not.i think having more peolpe around to see whats going on is better.but still it does worry me.
