an alert just came up from windows saying i have 347 trojans and other wonderful things on my laptop. the only thing i can think of is i got rid of spybot 6 months ago to make room on my disc, wrong move i guess, but it also says my windows defence was shut down, did the trojan shut it off ? and it wont let me download software to get rid of it. i have a new toshiba in the closet i was saving because i just hate vista. so anyway norton didn't stop the virus's or windows do you thik it was because i got rid of spybot ?

I just reinstalled Spybot Search & Destroy & it's updates. Found out Norton & McCaffe had missed quita a few.

Yea, I've found that none catch 100% so I try to run several hopeing that the combination will catch them all. Spybot actually seems to be one of the best of them it caught 99.5% by itself so when I started noticing problems I brought it back & lookie what it found that the others missed. Won't make the mistake of removing it again.

well mostly when you install another anti virus you will notice that there will have other virus which previous anti virus didn't able to detect.

you should unistall norton, and install avast. It is better and will keep your pc safe. I dont believe the trojan desactivated your windos firewall, there was something else that you did. But you should have your firewall always on, at least most of the time.

Actually trojan is used to disable windows features , such as firewalls, task manager, write protected functions, deletes antivirus files, deletes your windows boot kernel and many more. trojans are used to cripple windows functions. There are times where you will need to delete the trojan file manually and reactivate windows functions via windows registry. You will always need to be prepared by backup your important files at other partitions such as D, E , F.

It was not exactly a wrong move, you made a sound decision and you had norton but sad to say norton is not enough at all. Can I recommend if you can ever do this, please do it a.s.a.p.. Don't wait for your computer to crash down, I can consider a waste of money. Get a cd and download this and copy it to your cd please; Spybot and Malwarebytes for your Anti-Spyware, Avira or AVG(you choose) for your Anti-Virus and Comodo for your firewall

I recommend that you download the Avira is the best in the paid version antivirus with key test for 30 dias.Atualize him and then do the scan it found these viruses and trojans installed on your computer. If the virus does not leave the program from installing in safe mode and install normally.

what will you do after the 30days trial over? most anti virus software only deletes if you purchase it, otherwise it will only scans but not deletes.

hmm i dont know but i know that there is a generic.x trojan that will get past mcafee which is what i used to have on my old pc.. it was like a flaw or something because i looked it up and apparently there was something wrong with mcafee to where it would slip through and it would detect it and freak out but not do anything for it.. drove me flipping crazy!!

Yah, Avira Anti-Virus is good on erasing trojans and viruses, you can also use avast but i prefer Avira.. I too have the same problem, i can't download or even install any anti virus or spyware detectors,. What i did is this little software that helped me... Norton Ativirus really is a strong defense but it can degrade your laptop's performance no matter how high-end laptop it is, it will slow it down, i've tried it and tested it on difference computers...

I forgot to mention the software i used to counter those trojans, I use TuneUp Utilities 2009, its a tweaking software that optimizes your computer's performance. This utility have so many tools that can help your problem. 1. Step, Boot your laptop in safe mode, install TuneUp Utilities 2009, this utility can be installed because this is not a antivirus or a trojan remover, so the trojan won't detect it as a threat. 2. Step, run Process Manager in the Advanced Tool under the TuneUp Utilities 2009, then look at the icons of each processes, if the icon is a folder, terminate that process, because its a virus or a trojan.. 3. Step, after doing that, you can now download or install antivirus that you like and scan your laptop, then thats it, your done, hope it works on you, cuz it works on me...

yes, normally after you removes the spybot or other anti virus or anti spyware software's, you will get those error. My opinion , reformat the hard disk under c drive and start a fresh install if you have the installer disc. Do not forget to backup important files.

I too used spybot on my pc long back before.I too uninstalled it because it did not have update definitions. It did not create problems for my computer. You can try avira antivir free antivirus. It will remove all your trojans and viruses after you update its definitions. It also has a guard to protect you from future attacks.

Those trojans are a killer they wreck havoc on a mchine shutting thing off and disableing others. you probably have no firewall, no restore points and unable to update virus definations. The best thing to do is start from scratch, the good news is these things are software related so all of your hardware is good. i would recommend you reinstall the O/S after formatting the disc.
