Sometimes newspaper writer and columnists talk out of their hats instead of telling it correctly or even looking into the facts.
George Will of the Washington Post writes in his column at http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2009/02/13/AR2009021302514.html, "Real calamities take our minds off hypothetical ones. Besides, according to the U.N. World Meteorological Organization, there has been no recorded global warming for more than a decade, or one-third of the span since the global cooling scare."
I disagree and read here for another take on it, http://www.terrapass.com/blog/posts/ask-the-washington-post-to-stop-lying-about-climate-change.

I do think that the press do thrive on negative things and in our fear. I used to work for a local news website, uploading news. I was instructed to put negative news at the top of the news section since readers want to read this type of news. The media feeds us want we want to read.

I also used to work for a local newspaper. I prefer to read positive news first and I skim through the paper looking for that first. I do not like negative news and try to avoid it all that I can. I have enough in my life to give me sadness, I do not need more.

Thank you for bringing this topic up again. I think here in India, the press are regular enough in making people aware of the effects of global warming but we, the citizens need to be more active about it. The government has spent so much on the campaigns through the electronic and print media to make us aware of this fact but still, all we can do is to ignore the warning, thinking that one man cannot have any effect on the environment.
It is time we stepped up and saved our Earth.

Yes I agree with you, press needs to assume real responsibilities in whatever they are writings because their words make us get an image of a particular situation. Thus, if the words themselves are not accurate then people will develop wrong perceptions.

Yes, and it does not take much for some people to believe without question. We need all to believe there is a problem so we ALL take action. And what is the worst issue if we are wrong, that our efforts are not causing global warming (which they are)? Then we have cleaned up the earth for our own benefit, anyway!

Lets' see, sea levels are rising, there is acid rain in the north, snow caps are melting, glaciers disappearing and more wonderful changes. Oh and let us not forget the hole in the ozone layer, but hey we did not do it, nature did. HUH?
Well one thing is true, nature does make changes on it's own. But the changes were also due to other things so even if we are not the sole causes, we surely are hastening the process.

Studies show that some of these changes, do happen naturally, over many thousands of years. THESE changes have started since the industrial revolution, in a little over 100 years. DUH!! How can anyone deny it, unless they are trying to get out of saving the earth for the future generations because they are too damned selfish!

Global warming and change of climates are threat for our existence. You rightly said there are no practical statistics about this danger. Most of the articles
about this subject are hypothetical.I shall browse the websites you mentioned.
