I just found out that my 9 month old daughter has his dysplasia on her right hip. I am looking for any support or anyone that has been through this. Please send encouragement. I'm scared. =(

My youngest daughter had it. She wore double diapers for a few months and then they gave her a little shot to numb the area and turned things a bit. Then another couple of months with the double diapers and she was alright. They did several rounds of x-rays. She still walks a bit funny but they aren't sure if that's because of her other issues or because of a lingering after effect of the hips. It isn't as hard to over come as it sounds. It's harder on us parents then on the kids because we have to watch and we want to fix it for them. If they have her do Physical Therapy you may feel bad about it for a bit only because it's work for her and she may not always like it. Just chant "It's going to help her"

The double diapers (which are thicker then traditional) helped stabalize the hip. She never had the brace. No, she never went under to have them do it. But then they were concerned about her oxegen levels if they had to use a general because she has asthma. It was found at birth and we were through about the time she was a year or so. By then she thought it more fun to have massive ear issues. LOL She kept us on out toes.

Why did she have to wear double diapers? So you're saying they might not have to put her under general anesthesia to do it? Thats what I'm ost concerned about. Also, how long did it take the entire process? Her birthday is in may and I dn't want her to have to be in a cast or brace or anything.

When I was four years old (and yep I remember it) I was walking with my dad and collapsed in pain as it felt like my legs went out from under me. In the hospital they called it "Toxic synovitus" in which fluids built up in the synovial cavity of the hip joints. My legs literally would go out, I'd be in great pain, and the only cure was traction in the hospital for a few weeks. This went on all the way through high school. Now, I just deal with it. When it goes out I use a cane to get around. I wish your daughter well and hope that she'll not have to endure it for very long. Namaste-Anora

Thank you. I've been looking on the internet and theres a brace that they usually use on infants but normally after 6 months they put them under general anesthesia and pop it back in. I don't want her to be sedated. =(

I know the fear. Our daughter has surgery later this month and she's only 6 months and will have to be under general. We're fearful, yet we're praying for the best outcome. Blessings-Anora
