I tried deleting MP3 files which were saved on a writable CD by me. But it gives an error saying that they are read only files and cannot be deleted. Then in its "properties" i ticked off the "read-only" mark, but still it gave the same error. What should i do to delete those files?
I can put more files to it, but cannot delete the earlier ones. I did not use any special software like nero to burn it, but just wrote the files simply through windows program.
Please guide me, how can i delete files from my writable CD?

You can't delete a file thats written on C.D. A change done to a cd. is non changable. However you can format a cd if its rewritable. Also if you want to write files as different sessions. Use nero to burn & tick Multi session disk while writing. Hope my description helped you.

You cannot delete any file from a writable CD. If it is a RE-Writable CD, then you can format it and use it again.
Blank CD would either be a Writable once but if the CD is RW then you can erase the content and write again on it, there are some features which allow CD to be a multi session that means you write a session and do not close it so that you could continue to write from where you stopped previously.

You can only delete the files if the CD is RE-writable, CD-RW. You have a CD-R, which is only writable, what gets burned the first time cannot be edited or deleted.

If you're using a CD-R, you can't erase anything from it once you've burnt the stuff to that particular disc. Now, if you're going to burn something that you don't want to keep, or only keep for a short time, you may want to get a CD-RW. These disc work great for those temperorary burns, and when you need to transfer files from computer to computer. I have these RWs in CD and DVD.

It would have to be a CDRW (read-write) that has not been finalized. I would not recommend doing this, however. It will leave major "holes" on the disk. If you do delete files from an RW disk, follow it up with a good defragmentation tool like Diskeeper to put all of the files back contiguously.

If it is a re-writable CD you can do it but if it is a writable CD you can do nothing. From before discussions i can make out that it was a re-writable CD so now you can delete all the files in that CD to do it insert the CD in to your drive and open the CD icon in "MY COMPUTER" and select erase option you can do it.

While you can delete the files on the disk, I recommend you not waste your time. With a standard CD-R (which is NOT rewritable under normal circumstances), when you delete the files from it the, the space is still reserved for them, and you will be unable to burn any more files to the disk in that space. This is the reason why newer versions of Windows usually make the file "permanently" read-only. Also, with special software you can sometimes burn over the data already on the disk, but this degrades the quality of the disk significantly, sometimes just doing this once is enough to make the disk unreadable to anything.
My suggestion to you, is to either get yourself a CD-RW and some burning software, or use a flash drive. Most CD-RWs can only be used in a cd/dvd player that was specifically designed to read from that format of disk (because of differences in a read-only laser, and a laser designed to burn.), and I've yet to find a CD player that accepts flash drives, so if this is for your car or something, getting an iPod or a zune would be a much easier step to take.

For deleting files directly on a rewritable CD or DVD is not possible. You can add files because the CD is in multisession form when you burn by using nero or windows program. In nero it gives option whether to burn disk with multisession or burn it once. If you want to add or delete files on a rewritable CD like that of a Floppy you can change the format of your CD by using 'INCD' which is available in Nero under custom selection. Generally this option was not selected under typical selection. So try this you will use it perfectly..

If u r using windows vista u can format the CD as a live CD. Then you can write and delete files as is in a flash drive. If the CD is writable only the available space will keep on decreasing after every write/delete. The option is supposed to be available in XP also but I am not sure.

your last resort would be to disregard the cd and buy a flash disc. with that you can add and delete files quickly. it's handy and cheap. it's available in up to 8 gigs.
