Tickling: pleasure or pain

Niamh on trampoline - Niamh minutes after having a tooth knocked out! lol

Had a lovely night tonight at weemams for her hubbys 70th birthday and a good time was being had by all of us. Niamh (7) and Ross were having great funfighting as usual when oops one of Niamhs teeth were knocked out! Not to worry it was a wobbly first tooth anyway and would have came out sooner or later and within minutes she was back on weemams trampoline (see picture below) so there was no lasting damage. A little while later the playfighting resumed only somehow this time Niamh ended up pinned down with her feet being tickled. She was laughing and screaming and then making a funny noise which was neither . That noise started ringing alarm bells in my head and then Niamh brought the memories flooding back when she squealed she would pee herself. Ross kept going thinking she was just trying to get him to stop and by the time I said " I would stop if I were you or she will wet herself - I used to when I was being tickled like that" it was too late! Poor Niamh was mortified, poor Ross felt terrible as he had now knocked out one of her teeth and made her wet her pants in less than an hour! Aaaarrrghhh. Luckily we only stay a few houses away so my other half went and got Niamh clean pants and jeans etc and she and Ross were best of friends before we came home. My question to you is do you find being tickled heaven or he11? Does being tickled affect your bladder or any other body parts? Is this type of reaction hereditary? What makes you veer between laughter and screaming?Hugs all xxxx

I hate being tickled. My uncle used to have a habit of doing that to me, to the point that it hurt... it didn't tickle at all. It doesn't have any adverse affect on any of my body parts other than to give me pain, but ever since the time he tickled for too long, I have hated it. Brightest Blessings, my friend.

Thank you my friend, I'm grateful for that. I daresay others have different weaknesses. As I said, it used to give me pain, and it's just that different people react in different ways. Doesn't Niamh have a problem anyway, bless her?

You're welcome honey - I would hate to put you in any type of pain, Niamh does have problems yep - and her bladder has been weaker since she had 3 UTI's in less than 2 months in Dec/Jan, has to go for yet another scan. Hugs xxx

Not too many people seem to have the same result as Niamh and I do - makes me think it is some kind of weakness that we share! Promise I won't tickle you ! xxx

i hate when my boyfriend ticklies me. he always ends up hurting me. i keep telling him that he is too ruff when he ticklies me, but he does not listen. i think that tickling is suppose to tickle, and when he does it, it does not tickle. i feels like nails are being drilled into my side or when ever he is tickling

Sounds like he is maybe being a bit too rough but also that perhaps you are sensitive to being tickled and that is why it feels like that - even if someone tickles me gently it hurts! Have you tried talking to him about it when he isn't tickling oyu and just letting him know how much it hurts you? Might be worth a try - if not , why not let him read this? Good Luck! xxx

He11, pure he11 dear sis. I believe my sisters must have tickled me until I peed when I was a child. I still fear peeing myself when someone tickles me even today. I really do actually despise being tickled!

Hi mummymo! Wow, I am sure everyone had a lovely time! haha..I could just imagine the squeals and the laughter of Niamh. That must have been a lovely sight! Niamh surely is a great sport with her tooth being knocked off and well, with the wet pants. haha..That is so cute and funny but I am glad that Niamh has taken this lightly. I just pity Ross. I guess, I am one of those people when tickled will really squeal and most of the time, my husband will just do that without any warning. He will just grab me, wrestle me until I am pinned down and will surely tickle me until my tummy gets cramps. Ouchie! I usually tell him that I can't control my pee anymore and he will usually let me go. haha.. Take care and blessings to you! lovelots..faith

Yeah it was nice honey. The picture of her above was taken after her tooth got knocked out but before she needed to change her clothes so you can see she was still having fun! lol Glad your hubby listens when you tell him you will pee if he doesn't stop - I think Ross will believe those warnings next time they are given to him! He says he will never tickle Niamh again! xxxx

i hope they don't bite or smack you now sweety - I'm sure they don't! That sounds like a plan , disciplining them but distracting them but making sure it is with something that is so irritating xxx

That's too funny! When my children are in the younger ages and don't rreally get regular disapline, I tickle them when they do stuff like bite me or smack me in the face! Haha. I do it to distract them from what they are doing... but that is kind of weird that it is considered a punishment somewhere.

I'm not comfortable with being tickled. If I'm being held down or restrained I start to panic and I become claustrophobic. It's quite horrible. Also, my bladder is now very weak so if I am laughing hard, I can't control it...at all. It is mortifying so I truly feel for my lovely little friend.

OH I absolutely HATE to be tickled. Hate hate hate. When i was little my brother would torture me with tickles He would tickle me for what seemed like hours (was proly more like 5 minutes)instead of laughing i would be sobbing my eyes out. So to this day I do not like to be tickled. i dont remember ever wetting myself though. My brother was mean to me Poor Niamhs. Im glad someone found her some dry pants though.

Yeah I hated being tickled too - still do! That sobbing thing is so weird- with me it was always like a sob mixed with a laugh but I felt that the tickling was worse than chinese water torture! I felt really sorry or Ross though as he felt so bad - not his fault she kept going back for more, he isn't like my big brothers were - or yours! lol Sounds like OUR big brothers were bullies! lol xxx

Awww Our poor Niamh and Ross too I am not ticklish at all so I don't know I am sensitive in some area but not enough to call it ticklish. Do you know that tickling is listed as abuse in some state laws..Talk about the World going nuts! oxxoxoxoxoxo

I can't stand to be tickled! I just can't. I used to scream like crazy when my brother would tickle me. Of course, he was just gouging my ribs. You know boys. They think they're being funny.

I can remember as a child being tickled until I almost couldn't breathe. I hated it. I wasn't bothered if it was only a few minutes or so, but anything over that was pure torture. I've caught myself tickling my kids sometimes and thought, "I should probably stop...This is long enough." I haven't ever lost control of my bladder or made either of my kids do that, but I really don't care for being tickled. It can definataly be painful!

I find it painful too MissAmie - I think my daughter feels the same way too somehow - she would rather fight someone than be tickled! xxx

I would have to say that it is mostly torture for me to be tickled. But, if my back is lightly tickled I like it some. I have never peed my pants from being tickled, but I did get over powered by a bunch of kids by it! I was working at a daycare and a coworker tickled me one day and I yelled at her about it. I don't laugh and cry at once like I used to. I yell and say nasty words now! Haha. Anyway, one of the kids overheard me and later that day got a group of kids together to tickle me. I was helpless on the floor. I couldn't move! The director had to come and yell at the children and then she took me aside and yelled at me for not being in more control of the classroom. Okay...

I don't even like being gently tickled sweety! lol I used to work with children and I bet they had a ball but your director sounds like she is no fun - maybe you should find out something that she cannot take and set the kids on her - see if she shouts at herself! lol xxx

Tickling is torture!! I think it is definitelypin. My husband tickles me all the time and I can not stand it... I agree with the pinning down part as well..no matter what I will try to get free! I especially hate tickling underneath the armpits...That's the worst!
