As,an Indian, I'm very proud as "SLUMDOG" got the OSCARS. (More precisely, because of A.R.Rahman,Gulzar & Resul Pukitti). But,what BOYLE want to show?? India, still as poor as it was a decay ago!!!!!!!!! Poverty is a problem for every Country,it may be a developed or a developing. But,making money or doing business by showing poverty is not acceptable. Why Such films are always preferred by the Western Committees??? I don't know. So, it got so many OSCARS. This is a quality movie no doubt. But,I have seen many INDIAN movies which can beat "SLUMDOG" by even 10 goals. "Joy ho" is not the best creation of A.R.Rehman. He has created many much more good work than that.

I think you're really missing the point. This isn't a movie that profits at the exspense of impoverished people. And whether or not there are better Indian movies is irrelevant- Slumdog Millionaire can still be a good movie even if there are other good movies. Anyway, I don't see why you would deliberately avoid ever showing poverty in movies (which happens in tons of movies, not just Slumdog Millionaire). There is no sense in pretending there isn't a problem. How would anythign ever get better if everyone did that? And that's just not realistic. I don't want every movie I see to be about a bunch of spoiled rich people. Making a movie about impoverished people is does exploit them; it is not "making money or doing business by showing poverty". It's a movie, it's going to be about something- it makes money based on who goes to see it, not from what's in it.

I completely agree with you neobcrec,India is no more the same which they have projected in the movie .No doubt the movie was excellent but why the hell these people only want to show the negative aspects of our society??????? I really don`t understand this. And of course the mastero has many master pieces in his kitty but the award was given to only this because it was a movie directed by BOYLE

I really want to watch this movie as soon as I can, but from what I have seen about this movie it is not so much about the poverty, but how if you have a dream follow it and try and make your life and those of who you love better. The Oscars though a movie showcase are voted on by the Academy who work tend to work in american cinema industry and and some from here and there it takes one of these breakthrough movies to bring these alternate mediums into view. Every country that produces cinema has masterpieces in their collection, famous in their country but unfortunately not so well known world wide, there are a few that are able to break out of the limited mould and get more people interested in that countries cinema and maybe change their viewing taste to include these movies. Congrats to Slumdog Millionaire on it's win.

Poverty is all around the world and we need not worry about it exposed. They haven't shown something what is not existing or they haven't exaggerated it either.Well, our damned politicians should shy for keeping more people in the slums. They have to work for them to rise them to better environment at the least. This film shall arouse their feelings.Let us hope for the best coming out.Cheers!
