i see it everyday on the news: the great recession, the hundreds of companies filing for bankruptcy, prices going up, more people getting poorer. so when i go to starbucks to order coffee, i feel a little guilty. should i feel guilty? during hard times, what should we do? do we avoid spending our money? is still okay to opt for luxury? how about you, do you feel guilty spending money on anything nowadays?

one feels guilty for buying a luxurious item only when he/she knows that that he/she does not have enough money to pay for it in the first place. at least, that happens to me. i feel guilty, but to myself, if i bought something when i know that i will have harder times in the future because of buying it. otherwise, you should not feel guilty for buying the coffee you love because your money helps keep other people in their jobs, too! :)

I like making my own coffee. I think there are neough brands and beans to grind that I can save money and just make my own. I am trying to save and to me, this is an area that I can save in. I drink alot of coffee. It would cost way too much for me to always buy Strabucks....

If you can afford to go to Starbucks, and you enjoy their products you should continue to go and without guilt. You're helping to keep people employed.

Hi Sandra! Yep, I do feel a bit of guilt after I spend too much of my money at Starbucks! It's not going to stop me from going there, though! I think it's OK to keep the ecomomy going by spending some money on ourselves every now and then. I have cut back, though. It's just that I really like Starbucks, and I pass it on the way to work every day, so how can I not treat myself at least once a week! I am so adicted that I am justifying...

haha that's alright, i would justify too. ^_^ i love coffee too! i don't buy the coffee to wake me up; i buy it to keep me more focused. i have to read a lot and the coffee makes me have a longer attention span. the smell is just great, isn't it? that makes sense; it would indeed be alright to spend so that money still goes around and the economy won't be as bad as it is...

when i bought something out of impulse, the guilt enters my body when i checked the calendar and i found out that the next payday is still far.. so nowadays when i go to malls i make sure to come with my trusted friends. they act as my conscience when im in my impulse shopping self again. they remind me that i dont need those right now, and that were not in the mall to buy those thing.. i love my friends for helping me lessen my shopping habit!
