Anti-virus programs has their own specialty when comes to deleting virus. I have experienced using AVG Internet Security, Bit Defender Total Security, Mcafee Total Security 2008/2009, Mcafee Enterprise Edition 8.0, and Avira. But sometimes this anti-virus programs does not detect all kinds of virus. I got AMD Athlon X2 2.6Ghz and 2 G ram, to make it more useful I installed Mcafee Enterprise 8.0 and COMODO Internet Security plus USB Disk Security. I included Malwarebytes for detecting and deleting Malware. These antivirus/Removers are light to the system and dependable. If you have this kind of security set-up, it increases your defense for virus intrusions.

I have been using NOD 32 from 4 years. It is the best antivirus according to me. Unlike Norton it does not consume system memory. It is very efficient in detecting viruses. After installing NOD 32 I never had problem with virus.

Linux is the best Anti Virus, But seriously, As the first reply stated "don't rely on a good antivirus program" because it wont protect you from everything. Windows is a very vulnerable system and will go down easily if you don't watch out. I thought I was okay with just AV + Anti SpyWare and a firewall. I was very wrong. You have to maintain of course. Sigh. I switched to 100% Linux 2 years ago and dual-booted for a few years. But I had enough when even running as good free protection as possible still having problems. I'm okay though, I didn't like windows in the first place, just ran it because of the lack of support for graphics cards back then in Linux. Now my only reason to run windows is to try out my websites in IE and some small programs :)

I am too using avira and i think its the best antivirus. The viruses which cannot be removed by avira are spyware. It is just notifying you about it so that you can upgrade it and remove the spyware. You can download the starter version of spyware doctor. It will remove all your spyware for free.

I would suggest to you Comodo Internet Security. It is antivirus and firewall too.Doesn't load many files,so doesn't make your system run slowly. It is very easy to handle with(install, unistall, general use) and updates are also ok.I think that firewall is as usefull as an antivirus, escpecially for a wireless laptop!!So 2 in 1!I use it two months now and so far my system is "safe".I visited many harmfull sites just to check it out and it passed (so far) with A!
