I was wondering if it is worth buying a Blu-Ray player for my computer. Is it faster? Or is it just for Blu-Ray movies?. Specs = MSI Eclipse, i7 920, 12 gig RAM 1866mhz, SLI 295 GTX.

Currently is better that you get a bluray player first. cause current bluray burner and disk cost is really high.. I you want a best player around get a PS3.

If I were you I would still wait until I buy a Blu-ray drive, as they will always go down in price. However, if you have the money, go for it! Blu-ray drives do not play cds any faster than a cd or dvd player would, so if your going for speed... there's no point to upgrade. Blu-ray drives are simply to play blu-ray movies, or burn blu-ray discs, which hold much more storage than a dvd. (30gb)

Based on your PC I say you have some money to burn. No pun intended. But the blu-ray burner is just a matter of wanting to play blu-ray movies or store massive amounts of data on a blu-ray disk. I could be wrong but I believe blu-ray disks have about 36gigs of storage. DVD-r/rw's have 4.7gigs.. my opinion is unless you are buying it for the blu-ray movie player aspect or have afew hundred dollars burning a hole in your pocket. stick with dvd's for now.
