My first school friend was actually my first friend ever. We met when we were three years old because we were next door neighbors. Our families moved into a new development at, at first, we were the only kids there. We grew up together, started school together, slept over at each other's houses, traveled together, our parents became the other girl's second parents. We drifted apart some, during the teenage years, as we socialized with different groups of kids. However, we always remained friends and even took part in each other's weddings. She was a bridesmaid at my first wedding and a guest at my second... I was to be a bridesmaid at her wedding but I became pregnant. I ended up singing instead... and it was nice because, when we were little, a song called "The Wedding Song (There is Love)" by the Captain and Tenille was very popular. We would sing along with the radio and she would tell me, "When I get married one day, you're going to sing that at my wedding." I did :)
She has since moved away and we don't see each other much anymore. We still send Christmas cards and we email occasionally (but she isn't very good about written communication... she's always wanted to receive letters and such but often doesn't answer). When my parents or her father passed away, we were there for each other. I think we will always be friends in our hearts.

It's really wonderful to think about our childhood friends, and it's great that you are still in contact with her. I do hope that you won't stop communicating, to let her know that you still care for hear a great deal.
Thanks for sharing your story, it's great to remember these things.

Yes, I remember her well. She loved horses and her name was Karen. Her Mom would braid her hair everyday, and she would come to school in these braids that hung down on the side of her neck. She would twist the ends of the hair and suck on her hair and her thumb. I remember her hair was brown and she also had brown eyes. My family moved away and we lost contact, but I will always remember her.
