Would you buy used furniture?

My hubby and I wanted a different kind of table in our kitchen. One of our neighbors had a kitchen set just sitting in her garage. It was nearly perfect. Needed a bit of cleaning. And she sold it to us for $20. The table seats four and came with the chairs. If you would buy used furniture what would you purchase, and from where?

I think used furniture is one of those ways to trim expenses. You've alluded to this in a different post. Buying a serviceable piece of used furniture saves quite a noticeable chunk of change. Funds that could be better put into an emergency fund in case of financial hardship. I don't have, personally, the sort of family to whom I could turn for help with cash flow problems if things when south for me. My dad, of course, lends his sister some thousands of dollars.. but me? Oh, no. I don't think he'd swing funds my way. Especially not with how he complains about loss of value in his 401k.

Yes I would and I would also take free furniture. The other day I got a nice leather sofa and loveseat for free. Someone was getting rid of them to get a futon in their home and so I got their old stuff for free. Pretty good deal if you ask me! I am not too proud to use used furniture. I do say though that I prefer to use a brand new mattress as you just never know what might be in a used one. Have a great day and happy myLotting!!!

Absolutely! I have bought used furniture from garage sales and thrift stores. Sometimes all it needs is a good cleaning and it's perfect for your home. Sometimes it's better to get things that are a bit older as they might be made a bit better. That's great that your neighbor sold you her set! Good luck with it!

Why not. I wound definitely buy it if I were you. It was valuable, if it was not shabby. I love to buy used stuff sometimes. I usually select them from flea market, garage sale etc.....

Heck yeah! I would much rather buy used then paying for new furniture! Alot of our's is used and there is nothing wrong with it . I love going to used furniture places . Sometimes you might have to paint it or fix it a little , but that's okay . Think of the money you are saving ! Call me cheap if you want . Id rather buy almost anything used . I like getting a bargain ! Good Will, Salvation aRmy , Yard Sales, Fea Markets I love them all ! You never know what you might find , and you get a bargain.

yes and i have. I had a small round granite top table with four chairs which was sufficiant at first. Now i'm pregnant with our third and we have many family events at our house. My hubby went and got a six seater dining room table at a consignment place near where i live. We like it and it was in decent shape.

Actually, that is all I buy. All of my furniture is either bought used or has been given to me. I have only in my life bought maybe 3 pieces of furniture and they were items like a butchers rack, computer desk and a book shelf...all that I had t put together that were ridiculous to put together. much time...frustration and many parts left over in the end. 2nd hand is great and all put together!

I have a combination of used and new furniture in my house, lately we have been collecting mostly used items and re-doing them. For example, some years back me and my husband purchased a new modern looking dinning room table set and the table has outlast the chair's that came with the table ( the chairs were cheaply made) so we decided to search on Craigslist to find 4 used chair's to re-do to match our table and luckily we found a very affordable set of well made chair's that matched our table's shape and we just repainted and replaced the fabric & foam on the chair's and they look better and are more sturdier then the original chair's that came with the table. Craigslist.yard sales & thrift store's are some of my favorite place's to find nice affordable used furniture.

Yes I would buy used furniture most of the furniture in my home is used except for the beds. I would buy used stuff from thrift stores, and garage sales. Hey if the stuff looks good and is in good condition your getting it for a steal if you think about it. Cause look if you go to a retail store and price stuff there and you purchase something from a thrift store or garage sale you will probably be walking away saving over 50% of what you would have spent at a retail store.

I don't mind used furniture at all. I've got a three seater leather sofa which I've had for over a year now and it's in terrific condition and it wasn't that expensive. I don't think there is anything wrong with used furniture but you do have to check everything in terms of condition before you buy. The shop that I bought this leather sofa from was a second hand shop that was sponsored by Mencap. Mencap help people with mental health conditions. I think that buying used furniture is a great idea when you want to save money. Andrew

We have bought used furniture on many occasions and we obtained some nice pieces and saved a fortune! Recently my husband bought and old jarrah outdoor setting for $100; he had to sand it back and revarnish it and it came up a treat. We have seen similar settings in the store and some are worth $2000; all it cost us is an extra $100 or so for the varnish. I would recommend checking out garage sales and recycle stores; you would be amazed what one can find there for a very good price!

I don't think I will buy a used furniture. But it may also depend on the condition of furniture. Because if someone is shifting his house, furniture in good condition, and selling it at a reasonable rate. Actually now I am using a used furniture but it is now troubling us because it doesn't match the new combination of colors which was designed by my sister. Well that's why even we are planning to buy a new furniture. Bye

Yes and I have many times before. eBay is good for that and the newspaper, garage sales etc.. Even second hand stores. Somebody's trash is anothers treasure. If you can get it at a bargain price why not. We all need to save money. Some people take much pride in their furniture and are keep like new. I always hunt around first and see what others have to offer before I go into a store to buy it new.

I would be willing to buy some things used form people I do not know, but as long as I know the people it is coming from are clean people I would be willing to buy quite a bit of stuff from them. I think you got a really good deal on that table and chairs.

I find nothing wrong with buying a used dinner table for as long as it is in good condition. In fact my dinner table that sits 8 is a used one but I did not buy this but was just passed to us by my sister-in-law. It is still in good condition but quite big for the house of my SIL so she bought new one and just gave this to us. How generous of her! We are only 3 in the family but we love eating in a long table like this. Anyway I have a big dining room and this one fits well. Also I always visitors especially during weekends so I'm glad my 4 sitter round table is now replaced by an 8 sitter oval one. I passed the still good 4 sitter table to my brother. Ha!ha!ha! Isn't that great!

I love to buy used furniture. I can get so many more things for my money. Most of the furniture I have is used and people always ask me where I got it. Yes I might have to clean it up a little and do a few minor repairs but what the heck, for the price I pay it is worth it. I recently bought a bamboo china closet and a glass topped table and chairs at a used furniture place about 40 minutes from home. I get so many compliments on it. I probably wouldn't buy a used matteras but what's wrong with wooden furniture or anything that can be cleaned up?

i think we can buy second-hand things if they are suitable to us.just considering the price and the quantity.but i don't like to buy the used furniture.i think they are dirty and old.i am afraid they are neither safe no usefull.it is just my opinion, but i think my husband also has the same opinion.

I am okay with the used furniture. I would purchase the used furniture in a used furniture shop at the town, and I had bought a small funiture from eBay. I will buy it no matter it's new or old, I just buy what I like. Have a nice day ^.^
