Man handed down 51 slaps for raping a deaf n mute woman!!!!!

A man in northern India will be publicly slapped 51 times as punishment after village elders found him guilty of raping a neighbor who is deaf and mute, a village chief said Friday.
The elders stepped in to review the case because local police had failed to arrest the accused man after a complaint was filed by the victim's husband.
A village court made up of five elders heard from both sides on Wednesday. It found the man guilty, fined him 5,000 rupees (US$110, euro90), and ordered he be publicly slapped with an open hand 51 times, he said.
If convicted by a state criminal court, the man could be sentenced to death.
Do you think it actually is punishment enough for a such a serious offense? Will justice be met out?
I personally think there should at least hav ebeena public flogging, not that , it would be punishment enough

Will the slaps be given by 51 people, as hard as they can slap him? Still, jail time would be better. Sounds to me like the village gov collecting the fine is what the priority is.. Hard to imagine all the injustices which occur.. the blindness and non-caring.

Why not exiled from the village?
That poor woman and husband with have to face him everyday!
The woman with have to live with the terror of seeing him and if her husband truly loves her, he will be faced with trying not to kill the offender!
Oh wait, if that happens, maybe the village with sentence him to only half of the slappings.

I think his little 'friend' should be slapped 51 times with a spiked board, in public. & then, he would have to wear a sign the rest of his life, that he raped another mans wife, who was handicapped.
But, then I have a good imagination when it comes to men inflicting themseves on women!

He should have gotten alot worse than that, in our country, you spend time in jail and for that it would probley be for a long time.

Hey that is too less a punishment. He has Raped a handicapped women. She would have to live all her life with the memories of that incident. For this person I think the apt punishment would be to derobe him and let this women whip him good. Let evryone see how it looks to be publically humilated and how it looks to be naked in a gathering. After the victim had whipped him. Her husband should whip him and then every girl and women in the village. Lastly he should be dressed as a women and should not be allowed to wear normal clothes in the village.
