I always try to eat with my hands and avoid spoons .. when ever you go out side and eat , its quite risky affair to eat with spoons as they may not be properly washed or not even washed sometimes..I have seen places whare they just take from plate and wipe it cloth and put it in your plate.. better avoid such places..

good places to eat wouldn't risk losing their name with disinfected utensils. that is why go to decent places for a bite or two. many resort to plastic, disposable utensils instead. however, some cultures view using the hands when eating as rude.

I eat with my hands sometimes but only at home and if it's finger food. It's always safe to use spoon and fork because our hands catch more germs than we think it does. Always wash your hands thoroughly to avoid germs.

But do they clean the plates? Here in North America where I am, if they were to "clean" dishes the way you describe, the establishment would be closed down, and cited for a health violation. I can't believe there are still places in the world that are that dirty. How disgusting!!!

When we eat outside, we often use paper servettes or tissue to wipe the spoons, forks or any eating utensils before using them. Some restaurants provide hot water in which you can immerse the spoons and other utensils before using.

Not often but rather all the time. I'm not sure how it is in your country but it would be absurd for someone here to not use spoons/chopsticks when eating(unless the restaurant's theme is to eat the traditional way). Besides you always have the option of using disposable if you are worried about hygiene. Better yet, why not bring your own utensils.
