What am I worth

thoughts - thinking and comtemplating

Tired and drained she sits alone pondering her life. She thinks of where she is at and wonders why she hasn't accomplished more during her existance. She sits thinking about the educations that she has and how it seems that she is a more of a broodmare than an educated person. She wanted to be someone of value and she wanted respect for her work and thoughts, but it seems as if she has little value to anyone. She looks at her life and herself and she is worthless. copywrited march 11, 2009 by MJL In order to make this a discussion what are your thoughts on this poem and how does it speak to you?

Whatever the background, Whatever the status, We are at same level When mylotting on the site. Background as property we cherish, Continuous education leads to success. Set out with plain heart but strong will, We shall turn out to be of great value. March 11, 2009

Hi Bella: As I read this poem I couldn't help but feel as though I was reading about myself, and my life. I have been having similar thoughts, and I would have to say as recently as in the last 4 days. I kind of started a similar discussion previously, as this has been on my mind a lot. I think about what will happen to the rest of my family if I were to pass tomorrow. I'm not ready yet, as I don't have all off my ducks in a row to be able to maintain them in this house that I am still paying for. I'm working as much as I can so I can afford to take care of my final expenses, and pay off the house if I something should happen to me. I don't worry so much about what I will leave behind for anyone other than my family. I don't think much, or care much what others think. I know my value to others is non existent, but the sorrow comes when your own family shows you have no value. Such is the case with me. It's hard to deal with, but alas, there really isn't much I can do. Thanks for this discussion.....Take care...

Ahem Excuse me miss bella - worthless? Are you by any chance feeling very tired and perhaps a bit down? You wrote this about you? Okay you want to be someone of value and not worthless? Look at those 5 kids (not to forget puppers) and how well adjusted and happy they are , how they are well fed , emotionally supported and even always dressed in their proper soccer strips! lol Seriously honey I have to say that I think you are doing a wonderful , important and very worthwhile job - if you are undervalued by your family I think it may be time that you go on strike until they see just how much they really need you! Hugs xxx

I think it is interesting. I think you misspelled existence though. I guess that you could theoretically publish it somewhere. I think it is a good start to something. I would continue to write in this vein and see where you can get with it. It is important to be a writer with substance. It sounds like you are well on your way with that.

Because she is tired and drained she CAN'T see her own worth. When we are worn we can't see that the little things we do make a difference. Broodmare's are important to the world as is each person who shares their thoughts. While we may not know the respect we've earned it isn't any less there. Thank you for sharing this. It was a good reminder that we all get down and need a rest in order to see the truth of our self.

Anytime I love to write and most of my poetry is based on my emotions at times. I feel that writing from experience helps a little when I write poetry..

I am both the question and the answer to this Bella and both are know to us and people like us in similar conditions. Wasted chances, reckless adolescence, nonchalant youth and then suddenly on the threshold of 30…what have I achieved really? Still slogging it out at some 10-5 drudgery which seemed oh! So wonderful just about 15 years back…still carrying the yoke of family which was so exciting about 12 years back, hopeful yet of better days (though they may never actually come) YET there is so much I have achieved within my own oyster…my achievements are mine Bella, to be compared only with me…the naïve me learning the tricks of office politics and surviving, the greenhorn me raising a child who’s now 9yrs, a family built from scratch…so much and so many Bella and you know it too in your own life.

I hear you!!!I completely understand exactly what your saying... We do so much both at home and work and with the kids we can only measure the achievements that we have made ....

To be honest... it makes me feel depressed, my friend. Anyone who thinks they have little value to anyone and who thinks that their education has not bettered them in any way, is really down in the dumps, and I feel I want to shake them out of it! If I think that I'm of little value to any one of my friends, I will strive to grow from that and MAKE myself of value. We can all do something about the way we are... nobody else can... so we have to pick our chins up off the floor and learn to love and value ourselves... then, and only then, will others love and value us! Brightest Blessings, my friend.

The person who wrote this must be living my life. Not a lot of words, but this is very descriptive. It describes me very well at this point in my life. I understand the dreams and feelings contained in this writing.

Yes,just like me,i always think that if only i could be more excellent my life should be more colourful.Eventually i will blame myself for being so worthless.Sometimes i go into passimsim unconsciously and then to my relief i'll be looking foward to the future even though i know there won't be somteething wonderfull appear in my rest life.Well, imagine that when my hair has turned gray ,sitting at the seaside ,what impression will rise?happiness or sentiment?I always tell myself to do things at hand well and hope that i will leave less regret. So if the choice is made by yourself you needn't to be regreted because nothing can be changed.Wish everybody a happy life.

I know that there are a lot of bad things that happen in life and one way to deal with it is to get it out in writing and then you feel better. Thank you for the compliment of being an excellent poet.. If I write something upbeat I'll let ya know.

To me the value of our life is our loved ones, not status or education, but how much family and friends do we have? I'm afraid "broodmare" doesn't equate for me as the raising of children is to me the very noblest of all jobs! And as I now enjoy beautiful grand children, I feel richer than I ever have and quite valued. Also, to me what matters is character, what someone is within rather than business savvy, world accomplishments, etc, and not net value as the world seems to somehow focus. Of course women in some societies are hugely undervalued and this is highly grievous! Yet I still haven't understood why some deemed work done in the barn was of more value than that done in the kitchen and home! We all left the farm.. downfall of the world..

Reading this poem makes me sad, and I am happy to say that I don't feel this way. Not that my life is perfect...far from it, but I think that the mistake that women make is to get sad when they should be getting mad instead. Women take on the weight of the world and then can't find the time to achieve their own dreams. It's time for you, the author, to find your spirit again. It's never too late to make a better life, to change how you are doing things, and take up your own aspirations again. There is so much to experience--and share with the world. The world needs a strong, powerful, conquering you. Time to shake off the sadness, and take up your dreams again!

I no longer feel like that I was able to shake it off and move forward and I'm waiting to hear about the book that I coauthored and see what is happening with that. I think I was just frustrated and feeling a little under appreciated for everything I do.

It saddens me. No one should feel this way about themselves. But there is comfort in it too, in that it expresses a common sense of self that many can identify with. It also speaks to a certain stage of life,(brood mare), which stage of life often gives rise to such thoughts. So remember, it is only a stage.......it will pass, and with hope and humor improve.
