Does any one else feel as if you lose IQ points when you have a headache?

Whenever I get a headache, I can't concentrate on the work I'm doing or the problem I'm solving because the pain is really distracting. I don't feel like my IQ drops or anything but I can't think straight because there's just too much pain. This also happens when other parts of my body hurt. I get distracted and can't concentrate on the problem at hand.

Hi moonlit:
I use IQ points just by being. Although I do have frequent headaches, I don't think I can pinpoint that as the cause of my stupidity.
Take care.

Yep, headache, fibro-fog, bad arthritis day, any of those can drop my IQ about 20 - 30 points! I am normally a very logical thinker but on my bad days I can't work out which utensil to eat with or put simple sentences together. It is so incredibly frustrating.

I usually try to warn my friends or family if I'm having a bad day, that way they expect me to sound like a complete blabbering idiot. With most of them I don't have to say anything anymore, they just know. It's still embarrassing but at least they understand what's going on. I try to avoid strangers at all costs at those times.

Yes when I have a headache I cant concentrate on anything mostly i just want to be left alone until it is gone that is impossible with two small children though so often i just have to muddle through with the help of some painkillers.
Migraines are worse though I tend to lose what vision I do have and then get serious pain then I have to have their dad home to care for them until it passes.

When any person is not feeling well i think it is at least expected that at some level they aren't functioning at thier fullest. Yes i feel "dumbed down" when i have a really bad headache or if im sick... lol

Moonlit-
I suffer from migraines so when they hit, I can't type lol. So, I can't say if I loose IQ or not. I know that when they do hit, I'm generally out of it until the meds kick in.

Maxalt dissolvable tabs. They worked the best. They are bit more expensive then Imitrix but you don't get the shakes and such with it. I also try to do preventative measures as well, and early intervention. If I get the slightest suggestion that I'm building up to a migraine I take excedrin migraine because of the combination ingredients. It doesn't always work, but sometimes it holds if off while I'm getting the important things done. I also have given up caffeinated teas, switched to green teas. I still drink a soda now and then but not in the volume I used to and I only do decaf coffee. For me, those were combining with stress triggers. I also started meditation years ago and that has proven to help reduce the number I was having in a year, but I still do get them.

Nope. Don't get much headaches unless I am really stressed.
And when I do get headaches, I just pop some pain killers for headaches and go straight to bed.
Usually after a good sleep, it will be alright.
Otherwise, it will be another round of pain killers and more sleep.
I try not to do too much when I have a headache. I get really grouchy when I am not feeling well.

Definitely. I had a virus once and after throwing up for a few hours I had a killer headache. My aunt insisted on taking me to the hospital even though all I needed was an antiemetic. By the time I gave in I was dehydrated and I couldn't tell them my social security number. I was slurring and everything. Several hours later a resident claimed I had said it was a different year! Of course I didn't believe her. She had repeatedly asked me what day it was and I rather irately kept saying it was xmas day and she kept saying "no, what day is it." Once my head cleared I figured out the twit had been trying to ask what DATE it was but she was too stupid to properly phrase the question. In this cae I guess other's IQs dropped for my headache as well because they gave me a CT and wanted to tap my spine. I said I'd think about it.
One more thing, for some reason these people found it quite odd that I had never been to the hospital before. Do they not know that healthy people exist?

i dont think i know of more than 5 people healthy lol.. every one now a days seems to be sickly so i know its odd for me to know people that are healthy.. but then again a lot of friends i meet are in the same groups for certain illnesses so i guess that is why i keep finding them lol

Wow, that is pretty serious. Maybe it has something to do with where you live?
