Is there anyone left who doesn't own a cell phone yet? Why do you not own one?
We used to have cell phones, years ago, but haven't had one in probably 4 or 5 years. We've been doing just fine without one, although hubby has been wanting one for work. He goes on the road quite a lot for his job (local only) and thinks a cell phone would be useful for calling the store and checking in. Luckily he rarely goes out alone, and whoever he's with usually does have their own cell phone.
Well today for probably the first time ever, I actually said to myself "I wish I had a cell phone"
I had a doctor's appointment today, and I had to stop and pick up a prescription. My husband had said he wanted a few things while I was out, but I'd forgotten what he wanted. I don't carry change so couldn't use a payphone. So I had to return home without his requested items because I had no idea what they were.
Then, shortly after I returned home, the kids were getting home from school, but my oldest was late. 4:00 rolled around and he still wasn't home. I got worried so sent hubby up to the school to look for him. 10 minutes later my son's bus finally pulls up. Hubby didn't get back home until 5!! I wished he'd had a cell phone so I could have called him and told him our son was home.
So now I finally want a cell phone. Unfortunatly it's just not in our budget at this time.

I have a pay as you go phone that only costs me $10 a month and that includes voicemail and call display. I think this equals about 35 minutes of air time which is rolled over to the next month if you don't use it and texts are 15 cents each. I don't use it much either but a think $10 a month is a fair price to pay for piece of mind. There really aren't too many people who don't have cells anymore but I've found that the few who don't have them are adamant about not getting one. My boss absolutely refuses to get a cell phone simply because he doesn't want people to be able to track him down! Makes sense to me!

If I could find one for that price, I would most certainly get it. Although if hubby uses it, he'd definitly go over the minutes. When he had one he'd call me while he was driving home from work, and talk to me the entire ride home, which at the time was about half an hour. If it were my phone I'd rarely use it, and only have it for piece of mind while I'm on the road with my kids in case of a break down or something.

I cancelled our landline phone a few years ago and we got cell phones. So we made a tradeoff. I would have fits without it! Maybe that is something to look into is trading. Also, look into t-moblie. I know they are pretty affordable. Also, look into verizon wireless again as I think they have added some new prepaid things lately. Ours is expensive but with not having a home phone or internet bill it is ok.

I currently have dial up internet, so need my home phone. I wasn't planning on getting 2 cell phones anyways, just 1 to share, so we'd still need a home phone. And I could never give up my internet. I'm thinking in a few months of upgrading the internet because dial up is tooooo slow.

We don't have cell phones either. We did for a few years but we couldn't afford them. We did the family plan so that we both had a phone. The bill was just too much to handle so we got them shut off. We have been talking about getting them again but right now we can't afford it. Plus where we live there is no cell phone reception at our house. We would have to go up the hill or into the next town. There have been tons of times though where one would have come in handy. You should consider a prepaid(trac) phone. My sister uses one of those, you just buy the phone cards for it to put the minutes on your phone. www.verizonwireless.com/prepaid You can check them out on there.

My husband had the verizon prepaid one once. It costs $30 just to keep the phone on each month, and that's if we make no calls at all. That's a bit expensive.

we dont own any cell phones in our family and its not to say that we never did. we did until our teenaged daughter texted the bill up to $500- and we decided to become a cell free family.
sure there are times that i wish i had a cell and we will get one eventually for hubby not like you, its not in the budget right now.

I bought my first cell phone many years ago. it makes life a lot convenient with a cell phone. I was broke when I bought my first one so I just got a second hand. and now I am just using an old model one. I have to admit though it can also bring some inconvenience too. I had struggled for a long while before I got my first one. however, after careful consideration, I decided to buy one because the convenient factors outnumber the inconvenient factors. so I think you should get one although you don't have your budget for it. If you don't want less money on it, just go get an old model. It is a lot cheaper than the latest model.

In our house hold, I have one and my daughter has one. My boyfriend does not. Nor does he want one. He has a computer phone but never answers it! His boss has given him cell phones, he shuts them off and leaves them in his glove compartment.

We held out on getting cell phones for the longest time. I began to believe that we were the last people on earth without one. There was a time or two that I would think it'd be nice to have one for a convience reason but for the most part, I just didn't want the hassle of one and didn't like the idea of always being reachable. I liked being able to get away from everything/one.
We broke down and finally got them about a year or two before my son was born. It was strictly convience and we hardly ever used them. But now...... ohmigosh, there are so much a part of our life, I feel sure I couldn't get by without one again. The main reason I enjoy having it now is the sense of security I get when I am out with just my son, I know I can call for help at any time and that's nice.

I have had a cell phone for the last 6 years at least. I had one for about a year when I was younger too. I have a phone on my sisters plan, so mine is only $10 a month and my phone was free. I don't use a whole lot of minutes on it, but I do get quite a few calls on it.

I love my mobile phone, I never ever use it for an actual call though I use it purely for texting. I do not have it on contract or else I would just end up in a mess moneywise but I have a pay as I go card on it and everytime I put money on it I get 300 free texts too so it works out perfectly for me!! I would not be without it now because I can easily stay in touch with everyone wherever I am.

I bought my first cell phone in 2004. At that time, cell phone was not so popular like now. I really found it's convinent to have a cell phone. Just like what you said, if you have a cell phone, you do not need to worry about your child and hubby. You just need to make a phone call with the cell phone to call you hubby back. In the other hand, I know some Nokia mobile phones cost about 100 bucks or under it. So it may be not so difficult to buy one. So if the conditions allow, you'd better buy one.
