I have not been watching television for 3 years... and I am out of the loop.
So I really need your help on this one.
I want to buy some TV serial on DVDs... but I don't know what to get.
So the real question is...
What program do you like so much... that you would go and buy the DVDs?
And it would help me if you could give me a brief description of the story and why you like it so much.
Even if it is not on DVD... it does not matter.
I still would like to know.
Thanks a lot for your help.

LOL--I'm out of the loop too as I don't watch much of the tele either save for very late night news or just pop in one of my DVD movies now that I have a new DVD player (refurbished one and it was cheap and works great)---I guess one way to find out which series of a show you might like is to just go down the line of shows that are on (can look that up on their websites)---then read also reviews of different shows and if something sounds like it might be up your alley..What kind of genre are you into anyway? Law type shows? Medical? The "big" hoopla show most people talk about here in the states is "Lost"---saw a bit of it once and frankly thought it dumb
Can you watch shows on the computer? I know for instance ABC one can watch episodes on the computer...would have no idea if there is an equivalent of ABC where you are--oh wait, bugger...you have dial up and can't download or watch videos from websites can you?...okay scrap that idea...LOL..so just go with reading reviews of shows then

I love the TV show Neighbours, but I'm not sure if they actually sell those in DVD's.
If you like comedy, then Simpsons is a good show! It is not only for kids, but people who love to have a laugh, and most of the times adults understand things that children wouldn't!
If you like a bit of a mystery, go for Ghost Whisperer!
I love it, and if I had to choose Ghost Whisperer would probably turn out to be my favourite TV show!

My favorite show is 24, it's worth spending the money to buy the DVDs.
Why have you started watching TV again? I watch very little TV, just 24, House and Grey's Anatomy. Sometimes an old movie or a concert on the public TV channel.

I am not watching TV.
I get everything on DVDs.
That is why I was asking the question.
DVDs are the only way to truly enjoy it.
It makes all the difference.
I have the 6 seasons of 24 on DVDs.

And I just bought a PVR, so it records all my shows for me, and groups them so I can watch them without commercials, just as if I have the DVD of a whole season.

I have not idea, since I am not watching tv now-a-days. I like to see/hear music which is available in all channels or available as dvd. Music gives the mind the calmness and we can escape from all stress we get from everyday life. So give music a thumbs up and avoid all these serials which shows all drama and action.

I love watching LOST it is about a plane crash, and the survivors that land on a strange island that moves and changes time and there are a lot of people that are strange some from something called the Dharma Inititive, Then there are the Others and there are strange events and creatures that are on the island. There are several main characters, Some people die and then later are back to life or appear to be before people they knew. You have your good and bad guys, babes, rouges and many others. It is sort of a sci-fi time travel with mystery and adventure.
I also like to watch "The Amazing Race" Where couples race around the world and do tasks to get to the check point the last couple is often elemintated from the race and it goes on until finally one couple wins a million dollars.
Then there is Dancing with the Stars, Professional dancers teaching stars of Hollywood, sports events and more to dance the rumba, cha cha, swing, waltz and other dances they get judged and rated and the following week one of the couples go home and it goes until one is left to get a trophy. It is fun to see the various dances and outfits and styles. It is also educataional.
I know Lost has DVD series not sure about the other two.

Hello, I have been watching medium, and I really like it. I had just decided to give it a try and then got hooked on it. It is about the paranormal and it is fascinating. That is an area I am interested in, and the cast on the show is great! Have you ever seen it? What do you think about it? There actualy are people like this who have solved crimes working with the police.

I think it is soooo cool that some people can do this and help people as a benefit to having the ability. Ghost Whisperer is fairly similar, except she helps people move on to 'the light' so they can crossover, with no police involvement.

You ever heard of Superman?? this is about Clark Kent before he becomes Superman. There up to season 8 now. but in Season 1 it talked about him landing on earth from meteor shower. It talked about his high school years and now he's working at the Daily planet. Check it out some time. its on Thursday nights on WB Tv. other wise you can search for the show on ovguide.com its a search for tv, movies, cartoons, games and more online. i love that site.

I call it "SuperBoy", because it chronicles the events of Superman's boyhood. He was dropped off here on Earth by a Meteor storm at 3 yrs old, I think and a farmer couple adopted him and raised him as their own. Wonderful story.

I love friday evenings, then I watch my favorite show "that is how it should sound" two teams (with known artists) compete with each other to find the right song and sing lots of othersongs. They have six words, each team pick one number between one and six, with every word they get they have to sing a song, if they do not already know the right song to sing. But they have to be awere of the red word, if they pick a red word, the other team get the chance. I love this kind of entertainment becouse I can play with my self when I watch it.
When a team wins, the price is they will sing the last song of their own choose.
It is the 12th season this year they show this tv-show, and I can not get enough of it. It is the best programs they invented for years.

to be honest, my current favourite TV program is news because there is so much happening in my country for the past few months. other than that, there is nothing good coming on the TV and i find the new American Idol boring as well. i think they've lost their touch =(
the only DVDs i bought was of Lost and Prison Break (till season 3) because these shows were just brilliant and knew how to keep the viewers curious. i v quit watching Prison Break because season 3 and onwards it is on a down slope. Lost season 5 is currently on air but i don't get the channel on my cable so i would be waiting for the DVD for season 5 once it completes.

I am with you on the TV issue. I don't watch anything unless it is on DVD or streamed from the internet. There is a new show that I love, but it won't be on DVD for awhile. It is called "Lie to Me". The main character is able to tell if people are lying simply by their facial expressions and body language. I watch that every week. Another show I would recommend is "Burn Notice". A spy is given his walking papers, basically. You would need to look up a better description. My husband is the one who really likes that show.

House
Lost
Greys Anatomy
House, because he is so arrogant, but he is always right. He is hilarious.
Lost because it is a great adventure, and the many characters are brought to life for you and you can follow each one's adventure within the show. It has many levels of understanding.
Greys because it is about interns, becoming surgeons and doctors and their personal stories. Never a dull moment, many good characters.

Saw your comment under mine...about Regenesis---no, I take it is only the one season of episodes and they never made anymore..shame as it's a great series. There's another one they were showing, a series also from Canada, can't for the life of me remember the name but was a cop show.

Aussie.....Yeah, I guess so, although I don't follow it, just Greys. I like it best.
Also, I have a list of really good shows, I should go get it.
Dark Angel is on DVD, it was a shortrunning series, but very good, I thought. My daughter bought them. She is a DVD addict.
I loved Sanctuary, it only ran a few episodes, but they called them 'webisodes'. It was about genetic engineering gone wrong and this woman, who was infused with a special blood (I don't want to spoil it for you), ran this place to keep the 'abnormals' and called it Sanctuary.
Now, "Fringe" is a genetic engineer who is working with the FBI to solve cases. He was an inmate in a sanitarium for 17 yrs, I think. Way good, but I think it is too new to be on DVD.
Pye.......I think it was called Night something. I found it boring. For cop shows
I much prefer Law & Order SVU and CI, Criminal Minds, CSI, CSI:Miami, CSI:NY.
Eleventh Hour is also prett cool. A Scientist working with the FBI, as well.
I like Numb3rs, too. A mathemetician and his FBI brother work on cases.
Then there is Bones, where an Archeologist works with an FBI guy.
Now they also have The Mentalist, who works with the FBI, too.
I'm noticing a trend here........ But I love science.

Lost is a very good tv series if you watch it from the beginning. You will not be able to connect to the show if you start watching from between.
You should try watching Prison Break. It is a thriller in which the elder of the two brothers is wrongly convicted for the murder of the vice president's brother. The younger sibling then plans and executes the plan to help his brother to escape from the prison so that they can collect evidences to prove his innocence. If you liked 24 you would definitely like prison break.
If you want to watch comedy, you should watch Arrested Development. It is about a son who tries to manage the family business after his father is arrested. It is rated 9.7/10 on imdb. It is one of the best comedy shows I have ever watched.

I truly, am not going to chime in on this one...as this is such a personal preference issue, and what I like, I am sure would NOT "ring your bells!" There are some serials that seem to go on forever, like "LOST"...and the only bonus with that is that my son (29) enjoys it, but as you are aware travels a lot, so misses a lot of the series! So, for his birthday, I buy him the whole season, and they are not cheap!
What I do...is watch portions of serials on my computer, to decide whether I like them or not...and I love the fact, that the two ones I currently watch, I can "stream" at my leisure..not at their inconvenient times!
Happy hunting....I cannot wait to get my "slingbox"...so that I can sign up for the new documentary channel "Bold!" Hope your weekend was great!

My son and I watch "That 70's Show" almost nightly.
That 70’s Show
Set in the era of Led Zeppelin 8-tracks, Tab colas and Farrah Fawcett posters, THAT '70s SHOW continues to flash back to the "Me Decade" during the seventh season. The nostalgic series comes from celebrated producers Marcy Carsey and Tom Werner ("Roseanne," "The Cosby Show") and wildly inventive creators Bonnie Turner and Terry Turner ("3rd Rock from the Sun," "Wayne's World," "Tommy Boy," "The Brady Bunch Movie"), with fellow "3rd Rock" producer Mark Brazill.
Too cool for the Wisconsin suburbs where he lives under the authority of his parents -- RED (Kurtwood Smith) and KITTY (Debra Jo Rupp) -- 18-year-old ERIC FORMAN (Topher Grace) yearns for his independence. But rites of passage aren’t all that easy at a time when jumpsuits and platforms are the epitome of cool. Just ask Eric's ex-girlfriend and next door neighbor, DONNA (Laura Prepon), a knock-out who’s been forced to deal with her parents’ recent split and her dad BOB’s (Don Stark) new life as a swinging single.
Thats the description from the official "That 70's Show" site. Here is the link to that site.

We don't actually watch TV...but we do enjoy several TV shows. Right now our addictions are Heroes and House.
Heroes is about a group of people with special abilities because of their genes. You never know what to expect, it is always full of twists and turns, and you have a great time figuring out what's going on. I would definitely buy it, but it is on Netflix watch instantly. Each week the current episode is added and we watch it.
I am also a huge House fan. House is a doctor with a horrible bedside manner and a great ability at solving puzzles. We don't watch this one very often these days, but I would love to own the DVD's.
I would suggest checking shows you might like on Hulu. They have a lot of older shows in complete seasons and several newer ones with just a few episodes.

my favorite all time is Heroes. I don't have cable but I watch it online every week that there is one to watch.
I have always been a fan of the X-men not just in the cartoons or the movies but the comics and so when they came out with this show I was all over it. ALthough I don't like how they twisted the character traites of the x-men to fit this show, but the plotting is great. My favorite character is Sylar. Maybe it is that whole bad boy thing and all. But that show is awesome.

i watch house, lost and supernatural faithfully. house is about a unique diagnostic doctor and his team. i love this show because hugh laurie is such a great actor. he is sarcastic and funny. i started watching lost when it first started and am hooked. it is about people who crashed on a mysterious island that seems to have powers. it can be confusing and weird but it is different. and supernatural is about 2 brothers who spend their lives going from town to town to solve mysteries involving demons and the paranormal. this show is unique also. they are all on dvd.
