I am learning guitar. I am fascinated with bands who uses a lot of guitar effects on their music. On the top of my list would be Mike of Incubus. The way he plays his guitar riffs with mix of very strange guitar effects that were superbly combined is just amazing. Do you have any favourite as to guitarists with superb talent on using Guitar effects?

Hi onlineraket...
I learn how to play the guitar by myself, too... but I'm not that good yet. Just the basics and no fancy plucking stuff... I like the santana. And boy! is he good at playing the guitar. When I was in College, I like listening to his music and other songs sang by other artist where they featured Santana...

Hi kissieme. You are right. Santana is very good in his guitar licks. He always amazes his fans with the way he expresses his thoughts using melodies in the guitar. Its really awesome how is able to come up with those riffs. I think he had collaborations with Michelle Branch and The Calling and those songs are chart toppers.

To me almost every guitarist is good using effects, and almost all guitarist use effects on their songs. That calls for a lot of trial and error, looking for the right sound that best suites the guitarist or song.
People who I felt use effects pretty good on their music is Jimi Hendrix, Lindsey Buckingham, Yngvie Malmsteen (sorry if I didn't spell the name right.)
I listen to rock music and all the guitarists, and bassists, use effects: distortion; loop; delay; chorus; octives; compressor; noise reducer; wah; voice box; shifter; and so on.

Hi there oldmanhorrorfan. Thansk so much for introducing other artists that I could liston to. How long have you been into guitar playing? Do you mean you have used all these types of effects? Do you have any preference as to brands?
I have only tried the Zoom gfx-5 for my effects. Its cheap and its compact. Not that superb though in terms of sounds but I guess really good for beginners like me.
Hoping for your response.

The musicians mentioned already are all great, but nobody gets away with more on the guitar than Jeff Beck.

I know that there are many guitarists out there who use lots of effects on their instrument. Two that I enjoy listening to are Prince and Steve Vai.
Yesterday, I watched a few videos of Steve Vai on YouTube. He's very good.
I have rediscovered Prince recently and have found that he is one of the most versatile current artists. His music genres are varied: blues, jazz, contemporary, rock, funk. He is a genius on the guitar and his playing is as easy as breathing.
I just thought of two other guitarists: Stevie Ray Vaughn and Eddie Van Halen.
Don't listen to just one guitarist. Listen to several and learn something from each one.

Thansk for the advise. Probably I have really limited myself on current artists in terms of guitar capabilities. I just thought now, probably I haven't fully appreciated or oriented myself on how good guitar is as it participates in the different genre of music. The artists that you mention are pretty much foreign to me although I know them to be one of those guitar heroes.
Now I am thinking of expanding my orientations as to the type of music that I can play with my guitar. Probably I should be starting with Jazz.
Thanks bluerubymoon53 for enlightening me on this one.

I'm not really musically inclined although my siblings are: my brother is really good with the guitar and is even in a band and plays in local bars and such. My sister is good with the piano and she has learned guitar.
My favorite band is Fall Out Boy. I don't know how much "effects" they use on their instruments but everything sounds wonderful in the end :)
Thanks for the response on my discussion!
