Kids Cereal

Do you find that your kids want all this cereal(just for the toy or junk in it), then they do not eat it. Mine do this to me all the time, I end of having to eat all the cereal they do not want. They will get it home, eat it once or twice, then move on to the next brand. So of course mom has to finish the box, so it does not get wasted. They make me crazy with this. My youngest one wanted the Frosted Flakes Gold this weekend, I finally convinced him just to get regular Frosted Flakes, since they were buy one get one free. I know the makers make the boxes so kids will want them, just to sell their products. They don't care if the kids eat it or not, just one more box out the door.

My suggestion would be to not by the cereal when the kids are with you. Pick the cereal up at another time, or ask someone to pick it up for you. Tell them no toys or prizes. Just get the cereal your kids will eat. With the economy the way it is, tell the kids you have to cut back and can't afford that one. Sometimes they understand. This goes for other groceries as well. Especially if you feel you are buying things just to please them. Good luck to you.

I am getting to the point that I do not want them with me at all in the supermarket. It always buy this or buy that. They have seen the commercial for Danimals Crush Cups for yogurt. Well Zac & Cody star in the commercial so of course they want it. They do eat yogurt so that is not a problem. But the crush cup is, apparently you do not need a spoon, just squeeze the cup and the yogurt comes out. This to me looks like a major mess waiting to happen. I guess someone without kids thought of this. Luckily they have not had them in our store yet.

Looks like Dad will have to watch the kids, and you will have to do the shopping. Turning the channel when those commercials come on might be something to do too. LOL, the sneaky things one has to do. If we bought them everything they wanted we would be broke, and also have a ton of food in the house know one wants to eat. Right. I just bought what I knew they would eat. If they wanted something special when they got older, they could pick it up, that way if they didn't like it, it wasn't money wasted out of our pocket. Good luck to you, let me know how things work out.

I rarely buy the sugared cereal for my kids, but on the rare occasion that I do they eat it all. Heck, they would eat it for every meal and snack till the box is gone if I let them. The other morning my son who is always saying he is not hungry in the morning time ate 3 bowls of Fruit Loops.

My 9 year old is 4 foot 6 and weighs 75 pounds. He normally does not eat much either. He says it is because of his ADHD medication. It makes him lost his appetite.

My husband still likes Lucky Charms and Corn Pops. I really like the Speical K with the chocolate pieces.

My kids do the same thing. It really irks me. Now the rule is that we don't buy cereal until all the cereal we already have is gone. My middle son would also buy cereal with marshmallows in it, eat the marshmallows, and then say he wasn't hungry anymore. He'd even get the box of cereal and eat the marshmallows out of it. Then we'd have a box of Lucky Charms with no Lucky Charms.

My kids et the cereal because they like the cereal. Thank goodness for that. Once in a while, if there is a prize inside, they give it to me rather than bother fightng over it. If and when they get enough for each one of them, I distibute the prizes. If after a month or so, they don't have enough for all, the ones who didn't get one get to go t the Dollar Tree and pick out something there.

My oldest one is getting better about the prizes, the youngest one still wants it. Last thing they got, I convinced him to take it to school and give to one of the kindergarten teachers for their prize box. It was way to young for him.

I have taken it out and hide it, but they always manage to find them. They have learnt on the Happy meal no toy until it is done. My oldest he has quit buying happy meals, he is 9 now and to big for them. That is until he sees the toy little brother gets, then he wants his toy.

don't hide it from them, put it in plain view. and say "you don't get this until the cereal is gone." in plain view they can't take it without you seeing that it is gone.

i've never seen a box of cereal with a toy in it. i remember that when i was a child but i didn't think they had that any more. i buy the kids cereal for my daughter all the time and there aren't any toy's or surprises in them where i live.

They still do have some. One box had a small Monster, Inc stuffed toy. Some still have little cars. Just junk. Now I have noticed that they are making you mail off for items. Get a free CD with 5 tokens. I can go buy the CD for as much as cereal cost.

Yep my kids ask for the box of cereal that has a toy in it all the time. Alot of time it is a cereal they have never tried before but they love the toy shown on the box I will not buy a box of cereal just for the toy inside of it though. Not that it makes them all that happy but cereal is to expensive as it is I buy the cereal that is on sale that I know they will eat.

I agree cereal is just getting so expensive. I am starting to put my foot down more with the junk cereal. We are looking more for the sales then the toys in them.

I made the mistake of buying these types of cereals a couple of times. Never again. I told my kids that they won't eat the cereal and I'm not wasting any more money like that. If they want to try a new cereal then I get the store brand first to see if they like it.

Yep, most of it is pure sugar. It does not help when I have a son with ADHD, get him good and sugared up and send him to school. They do like to eat hot dogs for breakfast to.

I used to do this to my parents all the time growing up, but at least my Dad ate the cereal we didnt. Still now a days i eat kids cereal. This morning i ate fruity pepples, i like the kids cereal better and so does my boyfreind were like little kids still. I do eat frosted flakes and some stuff like that, that some older people would eat i guess. But i remember wanting certain cereals growing up just to have that toy inside. Memories!!!

Mine like the fruity pebbles to, but only one or two bowls out of a box. I have found a cookie receipe that I make with the fruity pebbles. So before they go stale I will make cookies.
