Should I take part in a flu vaccination trial to receive $250?
It involves getting an injection and making two trips to a hospital about an hour away from me for testing and also a 15 minute phone call in six months' time to see how I'm going.
My mother thinks I'm crazy, I think $250!

I certainly would. Your only expense (apart from time and, perhaps, a day or so with mild flu symptoms) is the 4 hours driving. Depending on the cost of gas, the actual miles and your car's economy, that is something like $20 - $30.
Sounds like a good deal to me - and you have the satisfaction of helping research.

Yeah it did say that it's a vaccine that has been/is sold in 10 countries. You make it sound better and although I declined this trial, I signed up to be on the email list for future studies.

Well, at least you'll have maybe more chances to do another trial. Owlwings has very valid points. My sister was very appreciative to be able to take part in a clinical trial (250 dollars didn't hurt either, lol), and 12 years later there have been no side effects.

Hi coffeshot! I think I will give it a try. $250 is a lot of money and what I know about vaccines is they are the same virus that can afflict anyone but will be introduced to your system in very, very small portion so that our body can develop antibodies to fight the virus. I am no expert but if there will be side effects, I guess it will be like having the flu itself. I think that I will go for it. Wow, $250! LOL!
Take care and blessings to you!

I say do it. My sister took part in a trial like that. They reimbursed her for time and travel with 250 dollars. It didn't hurt her one bit (it wasn't a flu vaccination trial, it was geared towards women issues) and she certainly needed the money. If you feel it is right for you, you're not crazy. It's just an opportunity that could be perfect for you.

I guess that is something that only you can decide coffeshot. If it were myself then I would have to know how much trials and tests had already happened and what rate and how many side effects had occurred. If these were minor then I may well go ahead but I would make sure I had all the information I could get beforehand! xxx

i'd read that fine print real carefully before i agreed.
about side effects.
there was a guy in the UK who signed up for a trial of something else and it almost killed him.the money he recieved for the volunteering didn't even begin to cover his medical.

Hey coffeeshot! I'm not really sure! That is a nice amount
of money these days! I know that I sure could use it! But,
then again I'm also not sure I'd want to be a guinea pig!
I would have to have alot more information about this before
I would be able to make a decision! That's an awful lot of
money to give someone for an injection, so what's the catch?

Wow. I think I would do it for that kind of money. I don't think it is crazy at all. I would do it too just to get that $250.00.

its expensive but can be very efficient..i had a flu vaccination last time and its all worth it..its better to spend $250 for prevention rather than having a flu that will cost you more than that..

I have been through cancer treatments and so much. I never get a flu shot. Instead, I work hard to keep my immune system strong by eating properly, getting enough sleep and controlling stress. I never get the flu.
Here are an article that you should read....

Hi coffeeshot,
No I wouldn't and your mother is right, you don't know what side effects you'll end having, no amount of money will get me to do it.

WEll, have you had a flu shot this year? I would do it as right now I got laid off so heck yeah. Make the drive into something else besides the hospital. Like a lunch out to treat your self or stop at a art store or something. Flower gardens if they have one all year roound as we do here in MN. Make a day trip doing fun things that don't cost to much. But if you think that there is a big chance that something mite go wrong then no. It is up to you to get all the facts and if then your not happy with them. Then no I wouldn't if I was then hey why not. Your friend onlydia
