JR Martinez aka Brot Monroe on All My Children bio
Personal: In February of 2003, JR Martinez was deployed to Iraq and in April, 2003, while serving as a driver of a Humvee, the tire hit a landmine and he suffered severe burns to more than 40 percent of his body. After spending 34 months in the hospital and undergoing 32 different surgeries, he is now a national spokesperson for the Coalition to Salute America's Heroes, to promote and support programs helping other wounded service members.
Professional: JR Martinez is a real-life war hero who is making his acting debut on "All My Children". He joined the cast as Brot Monroe. His character is the once-presumed-dead fiance of Lt. Taylor Thompson (Beth Ehlers).
i seriously didnt know that the whole scars from burns was real! i thought it was makeup or something so im really shocked he is a legit war hero/survivor! i bet when he first got hurt the last thing on his mind was him becoming a soap opera actor! keep up the good work JR!

I thought his scars looked too real to be makeup. But what is amazing is how well he is handling the role and what a great actor he is. It must be very hard for him to play a part that is, in effect, real life for him. It must also not be easy for those who are playing the parts close to his character such as Beth Ehlers.

I hope that all the men and women who have served our country and are serving our country continue to be recognized. While I'm all for stars gaining recognition, we should also continue to remember all of them who have served and those who have fallen. Namaste-Anora

Wow! What an incredible story. I am not interested in soap operas, but this story struck me as really interesting. Thanks so much for sharing it. I guess you never really know about people.

It's amazing that for all the bad wrap actors get... there are hidden treasures that never cause a lick of trouble and a few great ones who go over the top with good.
There is little guy who plays a nut case (I wish I could remember his name) who had been a firemen in NY. When his old firehouse was nearly wiped out in 9/11 he went back and put time in looking for his friends.
Look at home much M. Fox and Reeves have done/did for the medical community.
And as a side note.... I do think our soldiers, veterans deserve much better then they get.
