does the music video counts? or you remember it because it is sang by a famous singer? or the lyrics and the melody maybe?

Hmmm...for me it's usually the association with a movie. I can remember it being the soundtrack of this movie and It was playing on this scene. The lyrics comes next or rather the message of the lyrics. I'm not very good with memorizing lyrics (one of the worst actually :p)but I would remember the message. For me, singers are forgettable unless they are one of my favorites. Music videos definitely counts. Since I usually associate them with movies, the music videos makes the songs more interesting. Sometimes I can even forget the song and just watch the music video. Maybe it has something to do with using two senses (listening and watching) rather than one.

The lyrics and the melodies I should say. There are songs that just contain great melodies that when you hear them you would say I know this song. Even if you have not listen to that song for a long time, the melody would always let you remember. You can forget about the lyrics but sometimes choruses are just difficult to remember. Music videos may also contribute. Visual depiction may help retain the song in your memory. I guess also that familiarity with the band will help you the song.

If the song is attached with some unforgettable event in my experience, I'll keep it in my memory.

Well it can be a combination of things. Such as; 1. Vocals - If the person has real good vocals then it can be memorable, especially if that personan has created some well-known songs. 2. The Tune/Beat - things including instruments such as; Guitar, Keyboards, Bass Guitar, Drums and so on If the song has a good beat, good vocals and sells really well such as: Thriller, 1987, Bat Out of Hell, Highway to Hell, Back in Black and so on, then it will be memorable, even to younger fans.

Hello again Jane, about music i do easily remember the melody even if later on i will look for the lyrics of the song. But when i get the lyrics done, that's the best way to remember the song fully and i sing along with it to memorize the lyrics and melody of the song. I don't mind if there is a music video of the song or not, as long as i can sing along with it, i am happy and my day is somewhat complete.

i remember a song by watching a music video with lyrics on it and sing with it.Once i practice with the music video for two or three times,i can remember some lyrics without looking at the lyrics on the screen to help me with it.So that is how i remember a song.

The vocal or music melody is usually what makes me remember a song. I've had GNR Sweet Child in my head for the last week. However I only know the first 4 lines so I end up making up the rest. But ya its the melody mostly.
