Do You Have A Library Or A Shelf Of Books?

How many books do you have approximately? Do you have a small, or even a large, library? Perhaps you have a few shelves loaded with books. How long did it take to collect all the books you own? Have you read them all? Too many questions? My goal is to turn one of our spare bedrooms into a functioning library with fireplace and cozy chairs to read in. How 'bout you?

Last count I had just over six hundred fiction books, about half of them are out on shelving that takes up one wall of our second bedroom. The rest unfortunately are boxed away. I have been collecting my books probably for the last fifteen years, and in all that time I have probably only ever sold or given away thirty books, half of those were duplicates that somehow I managed to buy without realising that I already had them. I have read all but five of the books I own, and am slowly working my way through them. I picked up half a dozen at a charity shop a few weeks ago.

Wow! Sweet life. Six hundred fiction books is an awesome collection. That is a library. Well done! I have an awful long way to go to catch up to your standards.

Awe! I am so jealous of you! I have a few book shelves worth of books - a lot of them are cook books! I love to cook. I wish I had more books than I do, but I still have yet to read a bunch of them. One place that I love finding books is at thrift stores. I live in a college town, so our thrift store has a TON of books, most for a dollar or two. I have found some good books in there. The most interesting (that I haven't read yet, but I have started) was this book called "The true story of Hansel and Gretel" Which takes place in Nazi Germany. The two main characters are Jewish children that need to be helped into a safe place, so they adopt the names of Hansel and Gretel. I haven't gotten much further than that, yet. It seems really good, though! I wish I could have my own library! One day!!

That does sound like a good book. I'll have to visit our local thrift store, but I'm afraid ours might not have books. I should check though. Yes, my friend, "one day" is always something to look forward to.

I have thousands of books. Sadly, most are in boxes at my last residence, and some in boxes at my current residence. I have about 300 on shelves. Before I add a book to my personal library, I have to read it. So, I have a section of unread books. The bulk of my collection took about 15 years. I acquired 300 or so from a previous job where I could get new books for 50 cents apiece. My dream has always been to have a room designated as a library with oversized chairs and a fireplace. I did have that at my last residence. Now I'm looking for a permanent place to live, and one criteria is having a room where I can put all my books on shelves. I'm green with envy!

Oh no, you left books at your last house?? Will you ever get them back. That just hurts. I hope you get your library with oversized chairs and a fireplace soon.

I just signed a lease yesterday, so I'll be moving, and I'll be able to get my books from the old house as well! There's no fireplace, but at least I'll be able to call it home.

I agree, books do add a certain flair to our homes. I have a small collection of dictionaries myself--in different languages too.

Having a library close by is always a blessing. But I seldom remember to get the books back on time.

We have quite a few books...books my husband and I have collected over the years (as individuals)...books we've bought together...books won as prizes for competitions at school...etc. As of now...our older son has his little library...a huge shelf of books in his room (which has encyclopedias and others books that he reads...his books in music, art/craft too)....our little son also has a smaller shelf in his room which houses the books he uses. We have another medium size shelf in the living room displaying another set of books that we have. One of the things I am looking for when we are buying a new house is an extra room to create a small library. Besides the books I mentioned, we also have another set lying in cupboards.

Oh, that sounds great...but we can't do it at the place we are right now. We have just 3 rooms. Hopefully when we build a house of our own:)

Wow! That's a lot of books. Sounds like you'll be needing more than just a small library. Wouldn't it be fun having a high ceiling where you can reach the books on top with a ladder you can ride around the library with. FUN!!

books - a collection of books
Hi there gtagirl!I do not know exactly how much books I have at home. But I am definitely loaded with books. From novels to textbooks and so much more. Most of them were from my collections since I was younger. It's really fun to have them all. I have several shelves where I keep these books. I am planning to fix an area of the house and convert it into a personal library.

Oh, maybe you could turn your attic into a library. Of course, if it's not a stand-up kind of attic you'll have a problem. But that would be sweet.

Would love to but it would take a lot of money to fix up the attic to the point where I could use it as a library and since I don't own the house I just can't justify to myself fixing it up that much if you know what I mean.

Definitely a library and I would guess at well over a thousand books. I am actually banned from buying anymore as we have nowhere left to store them. I ignore the ban of course!

I do believe I remember talking about your library at one point or another. And who was it that placed the ban, my friend? Ah, it would be hard to obey. 1000 books and still counting. Wow!! You're awesome.

Hey there! I have approximately twenty-five books. I only have a small shelf to keep them. I am not that much of a book lover, in terms of collecting, but I like to read. When I was in college I usually go to the library to read some books and news papers. Usually I read news papers. I would love to collect too, maybe when I have my own house and some money to buy some useful books. Right now, with the present crisis, I spending my money on thing that are really needed. I am saving money right now. Your goal of turning one of your spare bedrooms into a functioning library sounds great! I hope to have a library like that some day. Have a nice day. Happy posting!!

Yeah, with this economy I'm sure that book sales are down. But I like browsing yard sales for them and sometimes the local library has a book sale--most goes for quarters etc.

We have a lot of books, and bookshelves in all sorts of funny places. It would be good to have a room just for books and reading, I like that idea. Although I like to have cooking books near to the kitchen, and reference books where you can sit at a table.

I would so love a place for books and a quiet corner to read them. A little table with a rocking chair perhaps. Of course, recipe or cook books should be in or near the kitchen. Makes sense. Have an awesome day, katsalot.

In between natural health, home school, reference materials, medical transcription books, computer books, etc. on and on. I have books in the basement, books in the living room, books in the dining room, books (mostly recipe books) in the kitchen. The kids have books, my husband has books in his office. I built a whole wall of cupboards for books in our bedroom. The cupboards are light colored and match the wall to camouflage where I keep the books (I couldn't us the wall anyway, long story). I have books in the bathroom just in case I get board. Oh my! No wonder the movers couldn't believe how many books we had when they moved us. We live in a small home so I have ways of tucking them away so that the house is clean and tidy but then we start getting the books out again. I bet you wouldn't be surprised to know that we are all members of the local library!

It would be nice to have a spare room for a library. I have hundreds of books. I have not bought them all, but they are here, anyway. I do not have a spare room, people keep moving back into them, etc. I would love floor to ceiling shelves all the way around, and something cozy to sit on. Of course, wonderful reading lamps as well. Maybe a rocker.

We have books all over the place. We have one shelf, but as well as books, we have a number of other things on that shelf, so as we get more books, we don't have room for them. LOL We need more shelves, but if we do that we'll just get more books. hahahaha We need a bigger apartment!

Yeah, it's kind of that cycle you've got going on. More shelves more books, more books more shelves, etc. I vote for the bigger apartment.

You're lucky to have such a collection and put them in a library. Very nice. Finding time to read is a wonderful thing.

Great idea! Looks like you've got a massive collection. Same here. Been collecting books for years, and I seldom resell them or lend them to anyone. I've purchased extra copies for my friends, but I wont give them mine! LOL. I have over 2 tall and broad (no, not men!) shelves, with nearly 400 books. I'm book-crazy, and there's something on practically every topic under the sun - but mostly spirituality related :)
