Sort of. It's easier to love family from a distance. Now that we live 2,000 miles away from each other, it's easier to avoid the senseless scrutiny and appreciate each other.

I agree but it is hard if you have family/kids and they do not get to see them...that is the only down fall.

True. Neither myself nor my husband have nay family close by, and I do feel bad sometimes, that my kids miss out on the big extended family that i grew up with. Plus grandparents make great free babysitters.

My mother passed away 2 yrs ago but we had an up and down type of relationship, she was very judgemental and can be very scathing with her words. But we did get along at times, too. I think fighting with your mother for years and finally being friends is more common than you think.

I htink you are right. I was terrified when I found out I was going to have a girl. Even now my daughter and I are so different I know it will be a tough relationship in the future.

Yes it is common. When you're younger you pay more attention to your friends than your family. Once you get older, you settle down and mothers are always there for you.

I guess that is part of growing up. My mother and I fought a lot when I was younger and sometimes still disagree on this but we understand each other better now.

My mom and I have always had a pretty good relationship, but I feel now that her and I work together it is fizzling out because we see each other all the time at work. I am glad that you and your mom were able to make up and be friends

And don't ya hate it when she is right?! Now as I am older I realize that most of the stuff she told me that I did not want to hear is true.

I am very good friends with my Mother. If it wasn't for her I would probably be lost on a lot of thing. She was there for me when my first was born. I dont think I would have survived with out her back then and now today I still need her and so happy she is here in this world with me and I hope we have many many many more years with each other to come!

I know the feeling...although my mother is a little different she helps me in other ways. She does the things that are best for her to do than to stress out over helping with the kids to much. Sometimes she comes over and helps with the dishes of helps me fold the clothes. But regardless of all that she really has been there for me emotional at times when I needed her the most.

My mom was pretty horrible when I was growing up, and I didn't realize it until a few years ago. At that point, she realized it too and started trying to make up for it, but I was so angry with her...and I still am, really. So I feel kind of bad because I think on some level she's really trying to make things right between us, and I'm just refusing to deal with it. I just think I need some time away from her to figure myself out before I can really be friends with her.

I hope that you do get to that point because you will regret it later if you loose her.
