Do you hold your partner's hand in public?

Once in a while, I will reach for my husband's hand when we are in public. Sometimes, he will actually hold mine, but not too often. It seems that he only wants to hold my hand in public when he feels like it, not when I feel like it. He says that holding someone's hand is a high-school thing, I say it is just a nice way to feel connected once in a while. What is your opinion? Do you hold hands in public?

as far as i know, there is no rule that say's that holding your partner's hand in public places is a crime or something like that. perhaps there are some couple who cross the limit of Public Display of Affection and that includes holding of hands in public places. yes, i hold my partner's hand in public places but not to the extend of something immoral. we set what is moral to immoral.

Me and my bf always hold each others hands as possible Its like showing to others that we are a couple I seldom see married couples hold hands and when ever I see a couple like that, I am happy because it means that they are happy to be together through the years

Thanks for your posting. My wife and I hold hands whenever we can as a way to stay in touch and feel the warmth of the friendship that is there beneath and throughout our love. It is kind of sad to see time take away that sense of togetherness for some married couples... they seem to miss out on that shared warmth. I am so glad that you and your bf still share it.

All the time. :) Even though my boyfriend and I have only been out of highschool a year (me like..3 months), I don't think it's really a child-ish thing to do. I see elderly people holding hands all the time. It's cute. I think your husband should be proud and wanting to hold your hand. It shows others that you're his, and all his. (I don't mean that possessively.. I think you get what I'm saying. lol) He should want people to see you're with him. I love holding hands with my boyfriend when we're out.. It's just a nice feeling over anything.

I guess not. I just don't feel comfortable doing it public. I think there are more appropriate place to do that. Sometimes though you can do it. But not overly done in public. For so long as it does not the obstruct public, you can do it. But you have to be very careful and sensitive while doing it.

It's nice to hold hands in public while you're walking together. You just feel secure. I don't know why you're husband think like it's just a high-school thing. I think it's normal for all partners to hold hands. But I think there are already few adults who are holding hands, but whenever I see one I just get amazed.

My boyfriend and I hold hands all the time - even in public, even while walking in the mall :) We're more comfortable that way. Can you tell if you held hands more often a few years ago, than you do today? People say that in their first year of marriage, they're physically close with each other when they present themselves. In two years, a little farther apart. In three years, considerably farther apart. Thanks for the response on my discussion!

We always hold hands it is nice to be close together. It is nice and romantic and makes us feel good,I love to see old people holding hands we always say that will be us in years to come still together and in love, not caring who knows about it.Tell him to hold your hand when you are out ,if he does not say"frightened we will bump into your girlfriend"he will hold it then.Just pull his leg a bit.

I don't have boyfriend for now but I don't want him to hold my hands every now and then. My hands keep sweating if that happens. But I hold my mothers hands when we are walking for her to feel more secure. Specially when we are walking along the highway. I think holding hands is good ways of communications.

why not? Why care about other people at all? I think that being kind to your partner is more important then caring about other people staring at you.

I, personally am not in favor of public displays of affection. I feel uncomfortable and feel that I may be making other people uncomfortable. I was raised in a house where there was not much affection so this could be the reason for this. My boyfriend likes affection and I am trying to work on this but he knows that I'm not used to it. He is being very patient. Rather than holding hands, we interlock pinky fingers every once in a while...doesn't make your hands all hot and can show you are still connected, try this and maybe you will have a better response.

No!We both have hesitations to show our bond in the public and we don't think it is necessary. My wife even don't like to put her hands on my shoulders when riding in my bike whereas there are more couples who ride, putting their hands around the waist. We live in a small town and it will be looked odd,we feel as such.Cheers!

Hi lynnemg! I have read this whole discussion aloud as my husband listened and we're glad to know that some here still hold hands in public. Our neighbors always comment as they see us walking hand in hand, me holding his arm, or his arm round my shoulders and my arm on his waist. They say it looks like everyday is valentine's day for us and always ask if we are going on a date even though they know we are on our way to work. Just imagine us gray haired couple being this affectionate in public. My husband even overheard this young saleslady in a department store say to her co-worker: "Look at the pair!" I did not hear that one but i ask him how he reacted to it and he said he just pretended as if he didn't hear a word but he itched and wanted to ask the lady if she is envious. Hahaha!

I never used to hold my parents' hands in public places. I used to hold them when i was a child, like everybody do.

My husband and i hold each others hand all the time in public. I agree with you. It is a nice way to feel connected. I feel close to him when we hold hands. I hear that alot though that men dont like to hold hands, there not in high school anymore. It must be a man thing.LOL
