Well, where I live (Florida, USA) we have a state law which bans smoking in restaurants if more than 10% of the restaurant's revenue is non-alcoholic. I totally hate smoking, so it has been nice to go into a restaurant and not have that horrid smell.
However, I am all for limited government. I am not sure if it should be the government's responsibility to pass laws like this or not. Perhaps the restaurants should be able to decide whether they want all non-smoking or not. So, I am curious what my fellow myLotters think...

No it shouldn't be. The government shouldn't be able to tell a private business what they can and can't do. If people don't like smokers then they simply shouldn't go to the restaurant. It would then be up to the restaurant/bar whether the lose in business is bad or not. If they ban smokers they should also at least ban screaming babies.

I am from Ohio and the town I live in has a smoking ban on Everything. Restaurants, bars, bowling alleys, etc. You cannot even smoke in your car at some companies if you are in their parking lot, this was how it was at the company I used to work for.
I personally think its great. I hate smoking and now that I am pregnant I am even more concerned about breathing in peoples toxic fumes. I think when the government puts a ban like this it shows how serious and deadly a habit like smoking can be.
I live overseas now in Egypt and people smoke everywhere, I would estimate that 90% of men are smokers here. Their government doesn't care. Even at my freaking prenatal visit someone was right outside the doctors office smoking...
