We are thinking of buying a new computer. But are having a debate, wheather
to buy a desktop, or a laptop. Neither my partner or I are all that knowledgeable
about computers, but one of us is on it all day, lol.
We play alot of games and sites like mylot and do some downloads...
I say desktops hold more memory and are easier...
Partner says laptops have as much memory now, and are just as easy if you
buy one you can add mouse to ...
Any advice would be appreciated it.. we are both open and not set on either type,
just not sure what do do.

A few months ago I bought a brand new netbook. Netbooks are those TINY laptops. They are about half the size of a regular laptop (8.9inch screen) and weigh only two pounds. I have the Acer Aspire. It has about as much space as a regular computer (120 gigs) but I only paid 350 for it, when it first hit the shelves. I love it more than anything. IT FITS IN MY PURSE! The screen is a bit small if you use the computer to watch television or movies, but I have a second monitor that is much bigger that I hook up to watch television.
If you want to get a desktop, don't cheat yourself, get a mac. If you are looking at latops, I still say get a mac, or a netbook.

I would say that it is a matter of personal choice. I have had both and have been able to use both of them to play games, download pictures and music, all the normal things. I really like my laptop because it's wireless and I can sit in my favorite chair or go outside with it. Many times late at night I prop up on the couch with pillows under my head and search for recipes and things that interest me, it's more comfortable, of course I use it for mylot as well.

if you want to play on it..i suggest a PC(desktop) fo it. it has a much better performance for the same money. i have a background in computers so i know what i'm talking about. the laptop is better for working on the road..but for home use(play or multimedia) is't a desktop :D
you should orrient for more RAM memody(about 4 Gb of DDR2) and a powerfull video card. if you want more detailes, PM me and we'll talk about it.

Well if the computer needs to be moved a lot go for laptop. If its specific for games and downloads and you dont need to carry your pc everywhere i suggest Desktop.
Moreover with desktop you have room for upgrading in future. But with a laptop you are stuck with what you have with very little space for improvement. With Desktop you can opt for a bigger screen which cannot be done with laptop....
So you have your options as per needs.
If i were in your place with your set of needs you mentioned I would have opted for a Desktop.

Well. Both are good to buy and choosing one of them depends on one's needs. If you travel a lot or want to use it anywhere in the house sitting relaxingly go to laptop or if you want to sit and work seriously at one place buy desktop computer.I also have a desktop at home.If i go out or go to my mom for some days i cannot access mylot and other sites because the don't have pc at their home.I have sit quiet there ,so i planning to buy a new laptop.Anywhere i go i can access my favourite sites using a laptop and portable usb internet connection.Happy mylotting

In the past I would recommend, but today I will suggest you buy a laptop. A laptop is much more convenient. You can even use it anywhere at your home as long as you have a wireless router. It uses less electricity. Besides, laptop's price is less expensive today and I think it's a very good advantage.
I love China

My friend told me that boys prefer desktop computers rather than laptops while girls prefer laptops over pcs. But I still think that it depends on what the person really needs. If he or she wants convenience then laptop is the best choice but if he or she just needs it at home then a pc is okay too.

I think that a desktop is better, that's if you want to use your computer whilst at home only otherwise you may as well go for a laptop. I'm not too keen on laptops though and I will tell you why. With a desktop there's huge potential for an upgrade. With a laptop, upgrading is extremely limited. I love fixing my own computer and so forth and I love delving inside. Anyway, I will always favour a desktop over a laptop. Good luck. Andrew

Well i think you should go with laptop. Why i am saying this? just because laptops are not bulky as those desktops and features are almost easier and similar too.You can carry the machine anywhere you want, instead i think laptops have got too many benefits than a desktop. You can lie anywhere you wish to with it. But with a desktop, you have to cramp your back for sure.Plus laptops got the capabilty to survive tough times too not that desktops cant, but then i think i gave you so many benefits..I got both infact i got 2 HP laptops and one LG desktop so by seeng to it i can say laptop is much more better, but the longivity of a desktop is far more than the laptop.this benefit you have in desktop.

hello friend I will suggest you to buy a desktop instead of laptop as you can modify you desktop according to new technologies for example you can increase you RAM,change your MOTHERBOARD but this is quite difficult in case of laptops...

the laptps are as efficient as dsktops.....also gives a wide range of functionalities....moreover it occupies less space....my suggestion is opting for laptop is as good an option rather than desktops.....dont worry abt the memory nowdays laps come with appreciable hard disks so storage problem isnt really a hicup!!!

I suggest a desktop for a few reasons:
-You already said it would mainly be at home
-Desktops can generally get better specs for a little cheaper
-Notebook's motherboards are built all together, so when, say, a USB port breaks, you have to get a whole new motherboard, whereas if a USB port breaks on a desktop, you only have to buy a new USB port.
But it's really preference.

Laptops would be more convenient but oftentimes if you want to update a laptop you pretty much have to buy a new one whereas with desktops you can buy new RAM or video cards for as technology improves.
