My sister is still 19 years of age but she has already lots of white hair. she really disappointed on it. i have this idea that may be one of the cause is tying up the hair even if it's still wet. do you know of some causes about this or it is an hereditary? because my mother also have a lots of white hair. she had lots of white hair more than the black.

I'm only stating my opinion here, but I think it's hereditary. There might be other factors that contribute, but mostly I think it's in the genes. There are so many wives tales about going gray, like if you pull one out you get two in it's place, or another is that stress makes you go gray faster(this one I might believe a little). I've also heard that people who start going gray early might be more prone to osteoporosis(not sure on the spelling there). So, I'll stick with the heredity line of thought.
Would love to hear what others think.

Yes it could definitely be genetics if you mother has the problem too. However I saw on The Doctors TV show that it could also be from a more serious condition. It could be a vitamin B12 deficiency, TB, stress, or a hormone imbalance. Things she may want to check on just to be safe.

I doubt it would be from tying it up while it's wet, or I'd be TOTALLY white! My gray hair has been due to stress. I have actually been able to track it! When I was about 13, I got my first gray hairs - that was during my parents divorce. They pretty much went away, except a few stray ones now and then. Until I was getting divorced, then I got some more. They went away after a while too, until I was graduating from college and taking the CPA exam. WHOA! That was pretty bad, even though it wasn't totally noticeable, there was quite a bit of gray going on. It always goes away for me though - for the most part - when the stress goes away. A couple years ago during tax season, I was actually wondering if I'd have to start dyeing it, but over the summer most of them went away.
My husband went gray very early, I think it was from stress, but also something else. The stress has pretty much gone away (I think) and he's still almost all gray.

hi :)
yeah they're right it's either on the genes or caused of stress... i have a nephew ans he's only 5 years old he has white hair and his dad is like that too i think he's 29 years old and since higschool he has this white hair already- but in our generation there are lots of things to do or remedy- dye your sister's hair but it should be maintained and she can try different shades of colors :)
happy myLotting!

you are right. It may be the cause of tying it on wet condition. It could be also a hereditary. I think there's no other cause of that except you have abnormal growth of your hair...

it's mainly hereditary.part of my hair went grey at 15,and now the grey is going white.sometimes it can be caused by injury to the follicle area, and rarely malnutrition i'd heard, but if those aren't factors,i'd say it's inheirited.
in my case,a few others in my family went grey early.

It might be stress related or it could be hereditary...
My uncle went gray when he was in his 20's and my cousin that is my age. he is only 20 years old. he is starting to go gray... I am seeing more and more gray pop up in his hair the last couple of months too. i think it's both for him... hereditary and stress...
