my son said today he wondered what we'd choose if we only had one choice fruit and veggies or meat. i thought it'd make a good question here. he said he cant live without meat. he loves it to much. i usually eat more fruit and veggies. i love them to much. he said if he was going to die from eating meat he dont think he'd give it up! i said id pick fruit and veggies because they have all the vitamins you need in them, even ones that meat have, but meat dont have all the vitamins so which would you pick if you had to give one up ?

Even though it would be smarter from a health perspective to choose fruits and vegetables, I would have to choose meat. I absolutely love meat and wouldn't be able to enjoy my life without it! I wish I could choose fruits and vegetables becaue like you said, they have all the vitamins we need. But I know that I would be miserable without meat!

I am not convinced that it is smarter to choose fruit and vegetables. They do not provide many things that we need to survive and the vegetarians who also go off dairy products can have trouble finding everything they need. Meat on the other hand does provide a lot of what we need. If I go off meat for too long I get cravings for it. I have cut it back in my diet but I cannot give it up completely. We are currently on a soup diet to try and lose weight but even the soups we drink have some meat in them.

Well I have tried being a vegetarian. My brother was heavily into it once and I agreed to go along with giving up meat for a while. Well it did not last very long. I started to have withdrawal symptoms and ended up having to buy meat for lunch as I could not give it up. I like vegetables, I love dairy products and I adore meat. I could live without vegetables if I had to choose and maybe even dairy but I would have trouble giving up meat. Even now I do not eat much but I need it in my diet. It is not just a matter of loving meat too much I think that some people actually need the nutrition that meat provides. If I was to indulge myself it would be meat and cheese. My parents used to joking call me their little carnivore. Unfortunately all the family pictures were destroyed by my mother but I do remember one of me at about 5 eating a chop that I pinched of the BBQ. I also remember being forced to sit at the dinner table for hours until I ate all my vegetables. It took hours because I never liked them and would only eat them when forced.

What they could have tried doing instead was to cook tastier vegetables. My partner does wonderful things with vegetables but he is a retired chef and that helps when it comes to cooking tasty food and making great tasting economical dishes.

Hi bunnybon7, While vetables have a lot of vitmins and goodness in them, you still need iron fom meat that vegatables can't give you, ven vegetarians hav e to take some kind of supplement to replace the vitmins that they don't get from meat but I rather have the real thing and eat meat. Hugs. Tamara

If I had to give up one, I would say meat, tho these last couple of days I have been meat oriented on my cooking and what I am eating. I do not believe I eat a lot of fruits and veggies but I should.

Maybe they are taking fruit and veggies for granted, they were always around them or so he thinks it is your job to get them. In my case, they seem expensive and I have to carry them home. Not a good reason but that's how it is.

I really like fruit and meat. I do believe that meat contains plenty of protein and can be good for you in moderation. I know that my son likes meat but especially enjoys fruit. I guess that fruit contains some sweet substance to it and then there are the canned fruits that have the syrup like sugar. Getting my son to eat vegetables isn't always easy either but I try to get him to eat healthy things. I agree that fruits and veggies contain a lot of vitamins. I would really not like to give anything up but if I had to I would probably pick meat in the end.

I really would not like to give up meat because there are so many different ways of preparing the dish but in the end the red meat isn't always healthy for us. Sometimes we have to sacrifice things that we like though. Too bad!lol But eating fruits and vegetables is so important in the fact that they supply so many different types of vitamins and minerals. That kind of thing is healthy for us and especially for children. It is so hard to get the children too eat right sometimes. I have a young son and I really want him to eat right. I didn't like vegetables as a younger girl but I do try to eat them now being that I know how beneficial they are to me. Take care.

I would definitely go with the meat, I just don't feel like I ate even if I do not get my meat. I love my meat. I don't get in enough fruits and vegetables though, I just cannot afford to buy them.

I would pick fruit and vegetables as well. I would miss it though if I couldn't have an occasional meat. I am not real big on red meat but I like an occasional steak. And, I love chicken, shrimp, salmon, lobster, crab, trout, catfish and you get the picture. I would hope I could have some of those occasionally. I might get cranky if i didn't.

I would choose meat, and I really love to eat fruits and vegetable and they all have the vitamins that we need to. And i will miss all meat very much. But there is one thing that I am curious is DHA, DHA is come from fish, if there is no more meat, is there I can find it from any fruits or any vegetables?

Thank you friends, just now I go to search for internet about this "DHA available in fruits or vegetable", I got some information that is we can get from certain vegetable like common purslane, pumpkin seed, walnut. But I am not sure this is correct or not.
25 Mar 09
I would eat meat. We are carnivorous and need meat and whilst our bodies can cope with fruits and vegetables, our number one choice of food is and should be meat. There are too many things that meat provides that a body needs that you will never get from fruit and veg, whereas the vitamins in fruit and veg are not that important to humans.

i think you jest,right?
26 Mar 09
No. I am not jesting. We are meat eaters by design.....we have only become accustomed to eating vegetables over many years. Although we can eat fruit more easily and our ancestors would have eaten fruit that grew in the trees. If you were to eat just meat you would live longer than if you were to eat just fruit and veg....so i would choose meat.

Well for me i'd choose fruits and veggies. and its really good for a kid to eat fruits and veggies. It's a matter of discipline and determination. It's good to eat also meat but not oftenly, maybe three times a week in a match box size only. You can also cook foods from veggies like making sandwich with mangoes and other fruits during snack time. Maybe it takes time for him to say goodbye to meat but he can eat meat moderately or in appropriate size which he needed.

Hello bunnybon7, I will definitely choose a fruit and meat. The problem with me is that, I don't eat vegetables. I get used since I was a kid and yes, it is pretty weird. Whenever I try to eat, I will vomit. I just can't taste it especially the green vegetables. So, like your son, I will choose a fruit and meat. I know it is not as healthy as it looks but I think I really don't have choice here

Without meat or similar proteins, we would die. People who do not eat meat must find other ways to supplement the loss of protein. When you do not eat enough protein, your body thinks that it is starving and your metabolism slows down. If we eat the meat of animals who eat a natural diet, we can get away without the other stuff, in a pinch, but not with animals who are not fed such diets. Unfortunately, for profit's sake, many farm-raised animals are not fed properly. Although protein is also found in your bones, teeth, fingernails, hair, blood, and other body fluids and tissues, a large amount of it rests in your muscles. Therefore, to keep your muscles growing, you need to continually feed them more protein and substantial amounts to keep them at all. But we do need plant foods, too. It should be a balance.

theres lots of fruit, nuts, veggies that actually have protein. like peanuts. i should have included nuts i guess.

While meat has the most protien, lots of other sources have protein like you said. So it's not like you have to eat meat to live. Besides it's not healthy to eat too much red meat whether the animal had a natural diet or not. So if you eat meat and nothing else, sure you'd live... but only until you'd die out of a heart attack. Fish and birds would be a better option if you wouldn't want fruits and vegetables. And if you take a look at a food pyramid, only a very small part makes up for the meat part.

I think it not so good to have much more meat. If we have a lot of fruit and vegetables have no bad effects but if meat have a long lasting bad effect. For me, same to you I like most fruits and vegetables. I also take meat but I take meat a rare once or twice monthly. Yeah, fruits and vegetables contains all the essetial elements of food so I think I can live without meat. While a horse can live without meat and tiger can't but tiger is not stronger than horse.

I'd still choose fruits and vegetables because there are alot of fruits and vegetables that i simply cannot resist not to have in a meal...For example, i love brocolli, and honeydew and watermellon and grapes and so many more types of fruits and vegetables, it would be INSANE for me to just live on meat..lol ^_^

For the kinds of food or fruit - the fruit has vitamins and uterus itself - on its own. For fruit - fruit of many vitamins, so also with the veggies and meat also has vitamins. All that can provide benefits for our good fruit, meat or veggies. Sometimes the fruit can also be used to cure some diseases.
