I nearly got stung!

It is great that the weather is nice enough to hang out the clothes to dry outside as they smell so fresh and clean when dried outdoors. Anyway, I was just un-pegging a pair of socks, rolling them up and strangely enough I saw a bee that I nearly rolled up. I came very close to putting my hand on it and am sure that it would have stung me if I did! I have only ever once been stung by a bee and that was when I was about 3 years old. I was at school and we were all sat outside on the grass in the sunshine. I put my hand out on the grass to lean on, not knowing that there was a bee there and so it stung me. A teacher pulled the sting out, put a bit of disinfectant on my finger where I had been stung and sent me on my way. I know that bee stings can be very lethal and am always weary of this especially with my kids.
So have you ever been stung by a bee? If so where? When was the last time you were stung? Have you ever had a lethal reaction to a bee sting?

Hi Humbug, Lucky me, no I have never been stung by a bee but my eldest daughter when she was about two was stung on the neck whilst in her car seat as one flew into the car, she screamed and screamed bless andI really wish it had been me rather than her that was stun, luckily she wasn't allergic but after the sting was out it swelled and was very red all around for a while and I did drop into the health centre to get it checked. Huggles. Ellie :D

Hi ya ellie333
Aww poor thing. I forgot to tell everyone in my discussion that if you rub raw garlic onto the bee sting it will alleviate the soreness caused by a bee sting and bring the swelling down. Oh well, at least I have told you for future reference!
Cheers ellie

Sounds like you had a close call. I am allergic to stings. So I try and be very careful. I got stung on the foot once as a teen. My foot swelled up pretty badly. I had to go to my doctor for treatment. My mother is also severely allergic. She stepped on one and had to be rushed to the hospital. Spent a few days there, and had her leg elevated for several days after. I suppose it runs in some families.

Hey humbug! The last time I got stung was last summer. It was actually the first time I got stung as well. I had been in the front yard to turn one of the faucets on when I put my hand on top of a post that was next to the faucet. I had put it there to help keep my balance while I went to turn it on. There had been a lot of bees around the faucet (as seen in the picture) and the last thing I wanted to do was fall on them! But I hadn't looked before I put my hand there. A lone bee had been sitting on top of it. He didn't sting me right away, but squirmed to try and get free. But I wasn't quick enough with removing my hand and the bee stung me on one of my fingers.
I pulled the stinger out and thought getting stung wasn't so bad as it didn't really hurt. But when I woke up the next morning my finger was hot, swollen, and hard. Ouch! Needless to say I'm more careful where I put my hands, especially when there are a lot of bees around.

It was painful. I think I had accidentally squeezed some of the venom into my finger when I was pulling out the stinger, which made it worse than it would have been had I used something to scrape it out instead.

oh my those were so much kids in her care. how did she produce so much kids. i think that she better get help whether she likes or not for the sake of her children. how could she ever provide and care for them by herself. it will just be impossible. she is just alone to care for them and how could give time to each of those kids. they need special attention each of them and one person doing all those things to them will leave them feeling not cared for enough and will not given special attention on things like their personal health. and what if more then one kid got sick at the same time. how could the mother cope up with such difficult task to help them recover.

Honeybee would sting only if u try to run or harm and even if they are agitated and sat on u and u dont move they wont say anything to you. Yes i have been stung by them countless times. It was very common in our village to have huge honey beehives on trees and sooner than later one of us kid would rain a rock and manage to hit it and then the bees would be all over the place and stinging anyone who crossed their path and i too was unfortunate many a times and once i got over 12 stings.

Hi Humbug, I was stung like you when I was very young, I was walking to lunch at school when the bee dived for me haha. I was ok, and as far as I can remember it didn't affect me.
On another story, wasps...well I've been bite a few times, and it as always swollen up badly. Once on my hand, getting the mail out of the mail box, and once on my neck

hi humbug, i'm glad you didn't get stung. i've been stung by a bee once or twice, not too sure but the last time happened just a few years ago at a water theme park. because it was a water theme park, like most other people, i didn't have anything on my feet. i love going barefoot to begin with but that's for another discussion. so anyway, i was standing in line at a food stand to get a drink when i suddenly stepped on a bee. so naturally it stung the bottom of my foot and i was startled. it hurt a bit but luckily i didn't have any severe reaction. my wife had some antibiotic ointment and put some on my foot which was a little swollen but i was still able to walk around and enjoy the rest of the day.

I haven't seen any bees around here yet. I'm not looking forward to seeing them. I've gotten stung a few times. I think the first time I ever got stung was when I was around 4 years old. I remember I was at a playground when it happened.

Hello there Shar19
I have seen a couple about though it's still not really warm enough for lots to be around and they don't seem to be quite awake yet either. I have removoed a large plant in my garden because it attracts so many bees in the summer and I am worried that my kids are going to get stung as it was right beside the path and we also have a honey farm in our town!
Thanks Shar19

oh being stung by a bee. that could be so painful as i hear or read . i have not been stung but i was so afraid of bees when i was small i stay away in areas where i see bees in schools as a kid. as i was told by playmates and adults how those bees can cause stings that is so painful and can cause some allergic reactions.
i don't or haven't heard much stories people here being stung. maybe because they are not trees and plants around here in the city. so i guess the bees would just go elsewhere some place as to get some pollens for their work of making honey.
i don't like their noise or sound they create when they fly. i only mostly one at a time. i don't see any bees or swarm of bees or even just more than one bee.

Hello Humbug! I am glad to read that you just nearly got stung not got stung..hehehe..I know how painful it is to be stung by bees. I got stung by bees not once but many times. First is when we have a family outing and my family and I went to a forest with a river there. We went to get some fruits and we passed to a tree with beehive there. I remember how I screamed when I felt the pain on my hand. It's like pain, itchy and my hand got numb..hehehe..I really cried for almost one hour..

I was stung when I was kid on my leg. Oh did it hurt I cried. My dad was like put mud on it we put ice mud. Finally my mom got the stinger out. I never got a lethal reaction.
I was mad the other day it has not been that nice out still chilly we were on the deck with my preschool kids. I saw a bee and said oh no not already this time of the year again.
Thats my worst fear. I don't like to be stung. One time I was playing basketball and I had one go in my shirt I was mad I luckly didnt get stung but hurried up and took my shirt off and was shaking it. Thankfully I had a sports bra on.

i guess it all depends if you are allergic to bee stings because to some people they can be deadly. i dont know if i am or not and i have no intention of finding out as long as they dont bother me i dont bother them. my mom has this one nice section of flowers that will blossom in the springtime look very nice they attract alot of bumblebees and we try to let them be since they dont bother us we dont bother them i find its best not to agitate the bees.

Hi ya apples99
To be honest I really can't remember it was sooooo long ago for me!! I do remember that I cried though so it is not just like a pin pr1ck and then it's over the stinging lasts a while but for some people it can be literally life threatening.
Thanks for your response and I hope you never get to find out what it is like

Oh, it's been years now. I was working in a dental office and the weather was so beautiful one day that we were eating lunch at a picnic table behind the office. There apparently was a hornets nest under the stairway that led back upstairs to the office. I was actually stung in the ......um... chest area. A hornet had snuck into the collar of my shirt! Ouch! I have had some bad swelling with bee stings in my life but I have never had any breathing problems from an allergic reaction or anything.

I don't think that anyone can forget getting stung by a bee! I was seven years old and in our back garden. This bee landed on my hand and I went to swat it away and the man next door told me to keep still and the bee would not sting me. Because I was so young,I did not realise that he as thick as a plank.
So I stayed still with this bee on my hand and sure enough it bit me. I burst into tears and looked at the yobbo who said that the bee stung me because I moved my hand!
I got my own back thiough later on as he put his hand over the wall into our garden to steal the string beans. I grabbed on his hand and yelled for my mother. He denied doing it of course and inside the house my mother told me that even if he was stealing I should not have embarrassed both him and her by yelling!
I suyppose it was your normal dysfunctional childhood! Blessings
