Hi All, Today when i was about to sell my old book and remembered those old day where the pages are missing, untidy pages.. drawing every where.... covers are missing.
I used my brothers book, i never got new books in school. Used to feel sad in the starting month of school, then after sometime- its "ok" because i was not that good in studies (average)
But i had only one problem at the time of exam i used to run for the notes because i never took the lesson seriously nor took the notes in class and then buy guides for the solution.
Those were the beautiful days. Please share your experience.

Hello yogeshdhusa! All my life I have been using a second hand school book. I am a product of public school and our public school here doesn't have a budget for new books. We are using old books which has been used at about 5 years ago by other students.
Even in college, I was still using a second hand book. My parents can't afford to buy books for me so I ended up borrowing books from my friends who were done with the subject.

I used second hand books when I was in elementary. My school is public and we share rooms with other grades or level. The school is in a far province and not really visible from the main town. I finished elementary not by using second hand books and never tried using a single new book. All of us in that school experienced the same. When I entered high school I used new books. I bought them because that is required by the school which was a private one. I bought books until I graduated so I really have a lot of books when I was in high school and most are new especially if required by the teacher and they check it every end of the year. When I entered college it was mixed, some were new and some were borrowed. Some were bought as second hand because new ones are expensive.

Hello!
I have been using second hand school book for all my life.
Every time I went to a book stores, I have been looking in the second hands book first.
I think it's better because it much more cheap than new books. Furthermore, it's almost as good as new books and I don't mind if the second hand books are a little bit old or scrawly.
Books can move from man to man for many many years and peole will still use them. In my opinion this is something really amazing with books.
Have a good day.

all the books in my school were used.they'd hand them out to you at the beginning of the year.most of them were pre-1962,so i imagine they were at least 14 hand by then.
most were drawn in,creased, stained, you name it.they were too cheap to update them.

i know even i had studied using old books and i use to do it for all my studies but then too sometimes we need to take some new books also but then too i remember those days it was good and also we have to take trouble to find the books and their quality and the condition to buy them and i also understand asyou stated their condition would be and i feel that it is not required to see that we just have to study and it is not going to matter wheather it is old or new and only the studies are going to matter us and even in my engineering my seniors use to give us th books and we manage it and then we pass them to others and it is also a good way to have a full usage of the books.

Hi, yogeshdhusa! When I was in schools of all grades, I would have old books of other students. It would have torned pages and little minor errors. I always hoped that the damage was not so bad that I would get into trouble form having a torn book, that someone else damaged. I always hoped that this would not happen to me.

When I was in college I used second hand books, I bought books from people who had classes before I did or my friends and I shared books so that way we didn't have to spend all that money on books, and I could have saved it.

When I was in Grade school all of my books are second or even very old because I was enrolled in a public school. If though I want to have a new books I can't do anything because our teachers are the one giving us the books and we surrender it at the end of the school year so that other students who enrolled in that section will able to used those books. In our country, books are really the problems especially in the province area. When got into high school, my father enrolled me in the private school already. I was so lucky because my brother and sister old books were not anymore being used in the year that I enrolled. So, in 4 years in high school my father bought all the books and every school year all of my things were new such as books, shoes, bags, etc. expect for my uniform. Well, its my younger sister who used my books when she got to high school. Actually, not all of y books. There are some books were also new. Same in my College years, all of my books are brand new. However, since I don't love reading books I just told my father that I won't buy books already instead I'll just borrow it from the library. In some sense, I still value money.

I never used Second hand school book before college. But most of my school book are second handed since I enter college. The second hand school book is much cheaper than the new one. In this way, I save a lot of money. But the quality of the second hand book is poor, which have a bad effect on my study.

I have used second handbook before but I didn't like it because of all the old marks and highlighted sentences etc and the covers were usually "broken" and not in good shape.

I dont care about who had this book before
cause we bought books for getting knowledge from them, not for the books themselves~
books will feel sad= =
the point is what can we learn from a book,we dont have to care about the ex-owner~
uhn....
If the ex-owner is a beauty or handsome....maybe ....not

I have seldom used a second-hand book.At the beginning of a new term, there always are a lot of new book with freshes. We are familiar with this conditions although it is really very wasty.I'd like to use the second-hand book with the marks of their previous owners. These marks are the thinkings of those people and now handed on to me.I study these thinkings and try to understand these people through these marks. It's really a wonderful thing. And I love it.There are so many new things surrounding us and we should cherish the old ones. But there are so many old books without any mark that shows someone's ever use...

I don't recall ever using second hand books. HOwever I always sold mine at the end of the year. I always took care of my text books except I remember my best friend always used to 'add to' any pictures that may have been in the text books. For example she would add beards to ladies' faces and skirts to men. I think this probably would have decreased the value of the book though!
If I had children, I would probably buy second hand books and just recover them with new contact. As long as all the pages were intact and it wasn't too grotty and old, I think second hand is the way to go considering the ridiculous prices of some of the books and the current financial climate.

I used the books my sister used in school. Basically because we went to the same school and we were just a year apart, so most of the time the books she had were the same books I'm going to use the following schoolyear. It didn't bother me, because I guess my sister was a neat freak and the books she passed to me were almost always in good condition. And her notes helped me a lot, too, especially when I need to review for exams and graded recitations. It was also a way to save money since we weren't that well-off.

Honestly, I have used a second hand school book at my college years. It's cheaper and still a source of information. The second hand books at my college university back when I am still schooling were cared properly for which we will have to pay it if they've checked that the second hand books were damaged or what...so extra careful.

i think its all about luck! in college the books cost ridiculous amounts of money and the smart thing is to buy recycled or used books. some of the time you will get a book missing pages, drawing all over or in terrible condition but in other instances you can get books that are used but look just like new! you need to find a reputable source to buy from because a lot of places wont buy books from students who are done with them unless they are in decent shape!
