What is SEO? how does it work? How can I make my blog keyword effeciant? Is there any free seo software to use that is also easily understood?

Most blogs offers automatic SEO.
And if you are using a customizable one (such as wordpress) I am sure there is a SEO tool that lets you SEO each post to the max.
I am using drupal for my blog and it has somewhat automated, but I also installed a SEO package to be able to tweak further for maximized views and search results.
