It was first introduced in Sydney 2 years ago . Sydney was the only participant at that time. Current ,more and more people are taking actions on the climate change. So ,can you stay without eletricity for 1 hour and what do you do to protect environment usually ?

I had heard of a day and time that everyone in the country is supposed to shut off all the lights and not use any electricty for one hour. I didn't realize it was called earth hour. Thats very cool! My daughter has a Clifford the big red dog movie that talks about how people can be using to much electricity and it causes a blackout. Everyone sees how wonderful it can to turn off all the gadgets and just go out in nature and have fun. I think its such a wonderful episode because it has such great values that teach our children how important it is to be good to our planet. I do not waste electricity. Usually I sit in a dark room while I'm on the computer since the light from the screen gives me enough light to type and do what I need or want to do. I shut off lights when I am not in the room. I unplug appliances when I am not using them. I could continue talking about all the things I do but it would be boring and I'm sure everyones heard it all before. I am always looking for new ways to help the environment but I will not be going electricity free tomorrow night. I think its more important to reduce the amount of electricty we use everyday instead of going without it completely for only 1 hour a year. I guess it would be good to show people that they can live without all the things they think they need so badly though. If its not horribly hot open a window and use a fan instead of the air conditioner. Educating people on how to be more green is very important.

Many tks for your response, shaggin. When i first learnt earth hour ,i was also deeply impressed. It's really a good campaign and people in world should know there is only one Earth where human being live . Environment protection is not depend on what we do on the earth day but on the every day. Hope every day will give us a hour to turn off lights.

We did participated in earth hour and switched off our main switch from 8:30 to 9:30 p.m. in our local time, which is the earth hour. I think it was fun to switch of electricity and stay in candle light and talk to each other and simply pass the time. We do have power cuts every half hour daily. So I think we can stay without electricity for one hour. There are some places in our country where there people don't have electricity for four to five hours a day.
