Do you always get stuck being the designated driver?

Do you always get stuck being the designated driver? When you go out (drinking) with friends, do you make sure that ONE of you will be the designated driver, or do you make sure to take a cab or walk? How do you plan these kinds of things out? I'm 18, and can't legally drink in the U.S. & I'm curious to know about those of you who can (not just in the U.S., but any country, of course!) How do you decide who is the DD? It seems weird to me that the designated driver could have fun while everyone else is drinking and they aren't - don't you agree? Which leads me to my next question..Can you have fun in a group of drunk people, when you're not drunk also? What do you think? Thanks in advance, by the way!

Here even if you drink & drive you dont get caught. The cops who find a drunk behind the wheels will defenitely fines them but we have so many streets to drive to get to our destination that we can escape from the cops easily. We usually have designated drivers as you say but these drivers are those who drive safelt when drunk...hahaha.That drivers post is mine as I always drive safely even drunk.

Its very rare that I drink so whenever I go out with friends its always assumed that I'll drive and thats fine with me because then I can be sure I'm getting home safe. I've always been able to have fun even if I'm not drinking because I have no problems talking to people I've never met before and I love to dance and (unlike my friends) I don't need to be drunk to do it in public. If by chance I do drink we have a program in our area sponsored by the local taverns where for 5 dollars a limo will come get you and take you home(up to about 30 miles then they charge more). For 15 dollars you can ride all night, going from bar to bar as long as its one of the bars thats in the tavern league. Its really a great program and I wish more areas had it because people are more likely to call for a limo than a cab LOL.(besides I live in a pretty small town and we don't have any cab services here or in any of the nieghboring towns)

I have amazing fun around drunk people that are so so crazy. Might I add i am old enough to drink, but I don't drink so yes I am always the driver, but I'm cool with that. I am always the one in the group that keeps my friends out of jail lol mostly every time we go out. I am glad I don't drink...........Great Day!!

Although I do enjoy a drink for me it is not necessary so I always end up as designated driver .. which is good in a way because i don't trust other people driving and I know I can trust myself to go out enjoy myself and stay sober :) :))

I never take my car if i go out to drink,i think it a very stupid thing to drink and drive. If my husband come out with me than he'll drive and i'll drinkonly because i know i will get home safe, but your right thought everytime we have our car at the bar we end up giving everybody we know a ride home.At lest we know they will be safe!

I realy do not believe to other people in the drive. I realize to do not too much drink, safety is the first. We also need to know the characters and habit or our friends. Very dengereous driving in drunken condition.

Typically yes lol. I don't drink often so my husband usually is the one drinking and then I drive. Occassionally though I'll want something special like a mudslide and then he'll drive. I think if you are going to drink then you need a designated driver, and the most fair way to handle this is to take turns. And, well, I never drink to get "drunk", so I can't truly answer if it's fun to be the sober one. I always have fun regardless of if I've had a drink or not. Perhaps it's my age, I don't know. Even as a younger person, 21+ I never got "hammered". It just wasn't something I did. I think the best advise I can give you is to let the drink flavor the meal, but not the head. Namaste-Anora
