How's the price of apples and oranges in your country?

Philippines

This makes me think because apples and oranges are sold very cheap in our country (Philippines) when we those fruits are not grown locally, they are imported from China. While the fruits which are locally grown like bananas and mangoes are less affordable here. It's ironic because we instead export our fruits to other countries. I don't know if this happens to your country too. Are fruits locally grown more expensive than those imported one?

Apples and organes are grown in India in abundance and when it is winter i.e. from October to March, we get plenty of oranges an applies at reasonable rates. However, fruits are overall expensive, because their over head costs are higher and they are perishable products.

Locally grown fruit is cheaper than imported fruit in my country. For local apple, it costs about US$ 0,8-1 per kilo, and for imported one its about US$ 1,2-2 per kilo. Local orange also 25% cheaper than imported orange (US$ 1 per kilo). And local banana is the cheapest fruit i think. I even have banana plant in my backyard:)

Local grown fruits are much cheaper compared to imported ones. Apples and oranges cost heaven in my place. Since their vit.C contents are the same I would go for local fruits instead. I was in your country once and noticed that your bananas are sold by weight. While in my place it is so cheap and is available throughout the year in abundance.

That's what the pricing should be. . . Bananas are sold per kilo and it's expensive.

In France, apples are local products. Their prices vary by sort. It costs 2 euros/kg for red apples, 1,5 euros/kg for golden apples, 2.5 eur/kg for green apples, and 0.95 Eur/kg for cooking apples. Oranges in France are from Spain, they're very cheap, of course, the salary and lifestyle in Spain are cheaper. Now a kg of oranges is worth of 1,2 euros, it's in high season. In two month, the price would be doubled.

In our country,it has something to do with all the import/export taxes, though I'm not exactly sure how all that works. It seems that everything here is getting more and more expensive. Fruits included. You just have to watch what is on sale. lately, everyone around here has had grapes on sale.

Yes, that may happen, the situation is justified. But always try and choose quality fruits. A cheaper product is not necessarily a good one. Sometime imported fruits are better than locally grown fruits, sometimes not. But what about another interesting situation: countries that import fruits that may as well grow locally, but they don't. No longer producing anything, or almost anything and importing products, including fruits that can as well grow in that country, are tasty/or were and healthy. Well, this situation is real, it happens. He, he - what about that, my friend ?!

That is an interesting observation that I had never thought of.We grow oranges, grapefruit and other citrus fruit here in Texas, and they are usually more expensive than bananas, which must be imported. My favorite fruit is the cherry, which is a seasonal fruit that is grown in the northern part of our country. They are expensive, even when in season. Peaches are grown locally but are still more expensive than bananas. However, I think that is because the peach crop is not only seasonal, but it depends on the weather.

I am thinking why apples and oranges are very cheap here, maybe because it's a left over of supplies last christmas. Althou really it's being sold cheaper at any month of the year. We must be thankful they're so affordable that everyone can eat. At the provinces however, these are more expensive than our local fruits. So, whenever we visit our relatives at the provinces we see to it that we have oranges and apples for them and for all our friends. In return thay make us abundance with our locally grown fruits.

In the market and fruits stands, they are much cheaper compared to the ones in the groceries. I purchased a PONKAN for only 4 pesos each but it was very tasteless. NO wonder it was that cheap. Apples, are quite expensive as they are not locally grown. The cheapest I heard of was 5 pesos but that's because it had bruises or pressed areas, or nail marks on it already. They are the rejects of the fruit stands. They are not dirty but if you are very meticulous, you wouldn't want to buy these sorts.

Hello, I'm from China. And there are plenty of various fruits. Generally, imported fruits are more expensive than local ones cause they need transport cost. I'm very curious about your country's situation. Is it because most of your local fruits are exported that the price gets higher?

Just now all fruits and vegetables are marked with their country of origin, so I know where my produce comes from in the grocery store. Most right now is coming from Mexico but I try to only buy local if I can.
